Pretty bloody big, no? Here we go again. It's actually quite interesting that while this is taking place, the US is experiencing a massive wave of cold air and lots of snow. Watching videos on weather.com is very sobering - have you noticed how the records are being beaten every year now? Same thing here.
Actually, when you look at a more recent take, it seems like another cyclone is getting ready for action over Fiji. Let's hope it's not going to eventuate.
I'm sure lots of rain will start falling now, as the cyclone turns into a low pressure system over land. That's the last thing that Queensland needs right now - the ground is still saturated from the floods. There are no prizes for guessing what it might mean...
I was flying back home yesterday from an extended work trip - a fourth flight in the last 7 days. The Sun was starting to set and light rays were reflecting from the hundreds of water "puddles" on the ground. As far as the eye could see, there were these little and big ponds - all across the landscape. Well, many seemed little from up above but at this altitude everything appears to be small.
There is so much water along the east coast - my God, this precipitation is incredible. The ground is saturated.
As the plane was approaching Brisbane, we entered a massive expanse of cloud. It's actually an amazing sight from up above - it's like a giant white mass of high-level cloud that suddenly emerges, with a sharp edge. One moment, you're looking at the little towns way down below and suddenly a white ominous fluff of steamy air covers everything. The plane enters into it and it's like going into a different world. Slight anxiety envelops the psyche, the plane shakes a bit and then you are welcomed by a darkened city waiting for the next onslaught of Mother Nature...
Brisbane was nicer today though still very very humid. If it weren't for the news, you'd be forgiven for missing it all - though, surely, the rains are on the way again.
Take a look at this annual precipitation map - well, there is only one month on it but already so much water fell down from the sky.
