data analysis software?

Hello there :)

Has anyone encountered/heard of/used some software which can be fed with a packet of data, for example - individual names, corporate names, institutions, etc, and which would then browse through the internet and bring back sort of rough analysis/connections outline between the provided data? I'm sure every secret service worthy of it's name has huge databases which can bring such information in no time, but I'm curious if anyone of you heard of such software in the public domain? Kind of a thing we could see on Neo's monitor in the first scene of "The Matrix". It was obviously "combing" through the internet and bringing back relevant information about Morpheus.

Of course, it can be done by long hours of web searching, dozens of web pages open at a time, a pen, a sheet of paper, etc, but maybe independent researchers have some tools which speed up the process of data collection/analysis?

Namebase is pretty cool, it's been going for about 6 years with a neat little Java applet.

Google is still the best though IMHO.
