detox holiday/health camp ???

i have been thinking about this idea i have about starting a detox camp on my organic farm in the Australian bush....since all this area has to offer is clean air, clean spring water and lots of forest and isolation...i would like to turn those things into an asset but i also would like to do it in a STO way if possible.

i would really appreciate if the forum members would help me with some research into how this can be achieved.

so if you were to go to a detox camp what would you expect there?
fasting ,colonics? light exercise like bush walking or full work outs?
would you even consider taking a holiday to detox?
small groups of single people only or whole families?
how long do you go for? 1 week? 1 month? several month?
what kind of treatments do you think are indispensable?
would you want to see a herbalist or hypno therapist or reiki practitioner ,or get shiatsu or bowen treatments?(available in the local village 15 km away)
gluten free cooking classes ? yoga classes? belly dancing? singing? sweat lodge?

there is no cell phone reception here but there is internet access ,all power is solar

i like to make this as affordable as possible for people so how much is a fair price?
should there be a option to work in the garden/kitchen instead ,for example?
(btw aussie dollar is going down making it cheaper for people from overseas)
is simple dorm accommodation enough or do you need a room for yourself?

how STO is offering this 'help' since no-one has asked me for it?
how can people ask for this if they don't know it exists?
is there anybody interested in joining me in this and what skills can they bring to this?
any suggestions for a name? machine-cleaning shop? casshram? detox-farm?
any problems you can foresee?
thank you all in advance for your help

edit this looks to be a nice diet to get started on after the fast

I know that some people here go for what they call "silent retreat". It's a bunch of cabins on someone's farm property. They fast there too, but the real point is to rest, be in peace, pray or meditate, etc.

I imagine that for a real detox camp geared towards serious fasting you are going to have some kind of specialist supervising people. For liability issues at least. But may be starting with "silent retreat" of a sort, with assumption that people can do other things too, will be easier.

Now, point by point:

fasting ,colonics? light exercise like bush walking or full work outs?

I would do fasting, If colonics are available, I would do that. No strenuous exercise, taking it easy

would you even consider taking a holiday to detox?

yes, and not only me, other would too

small groups of single people only or whole families?

groups or single people, no families with small children.

how long do you go for? 1 week? 1 month? several month?

a few days; one week max

what kind of treatments do you think are indispensable?

SILENCE and peaceful natural surroundings. Everything else is optional/ But, would be nice to have massage therapy, colonics, and a sauna\sweat lodge. For a group, may be a seminar on healthy living or a yoga class. Instructors can be contracted by the hour if the group wants these things.

would you want to see a herbalist or hypno therapist or reiki practitioner ,or get shiatsu or bowen treatments?(available in the local village 15 km away)

yes. They may be contracted to come over, if need be.

gluten free cooking classes ? yoga classes? belly dancing? singing? sweat lodge?

sure, if I am in a group that would like that. If I am by myself, just silence would do.

i like to make this as affordable as possible for people so how much is a fair price?

Here, it seems that if people are offering all the bells and whistles, they are charging up to $400-$600 a day. I know my friends have gone for much cheaper, I would like to say, $30-$40 a day? You might want to check out http://retreatsonline.com/ for ideas.

should there be a option to work in the garden/kitchen instead ,for example?

could be

is simple dorm accommodation enough or do you need a room for yourself?

NO DORM. As private as possible. Fasting requires privacy, and silence too.

something more neutral and pretty. Like "Peaceful Prairie" etc ;)

any problems you can foresee?

you might want to consider what your customer base is going to be: religious folks or new-age folks (I know, neither is exactly our line, but ... ), and package and advertise the services accordingly.

Good luck! I think it's a great idea. Too bad I am not in Australia and can't join you.

Thank you Hildegard for your reply and helpful link
i have been cruising on it and there are some great examples of what i kind of had in mind , i even got a shock :O when i looked up my area and found a 'resort' listed in MY VILLAGE but the number for it is not local and when i rang it i got no answer .Someone beat me to the idea? but didn't succeed? the plot thickens :P
i also thought of a 'gimmick' to make it stand out from the rest and attract a wider client base....a health camp where you are allowed to SMOKE :cool2:
but with a twist and integrated in the learning process ...maybe as incentive like a health quiz summing up what you have learned during that day...the better you score/healthier choices you make the more additive free tobacco( like N A spirit)
you get awarded for the next day? or workshops where you get to carve your personal colonic board from local rainforest timber to take home :/
i may have to spend the money and check out what the 'competition' has to offer

Thanks again and keep the ideas coming ,please

Hi rrraven,

I don't know if customers who are interested in detox camp would be attracted by a smoking place.

Most people who are interested in healthy food, natural lifestyle might equate smoking with toxicity. Maybe you could validate amongst potential customers if this smoking idea is a good one.

since virtually all the other health resorts have a strict no smoking policy since they do equate it with toxicity (which i don't ,especially if its pure tobacco) i was hoping to attract those people that considered a detox but are put off by the prospect of having to give up smoking while they are there
as i know people that refuse to take international flights cause they can't smoke for that long.....btw most of my midwives, yoga teachers, dance teachers and shiatsu instructors are smokers :P
there is already a ton of resorts out there mine will have to stand out in some way ;D
and one of the aims is to provide clients with the knowledge to make their own informed choices and not fall for the brain wash of the drink your milk-eat lots of grain-quit smoking industry
also clients who do want to quit may find it easier after kicking the addiction to the additives on your ordinary smokes

Hello Ravennn. If you do get that up and running, please let me know, as it sounds like a great place to go after kicking a drug habit.

hi davey72

you may have noticed the tread was from 08...the camp plans are on hold...I have rented the house to a family with 5 kids who were desperate for some place to stay..

besides that ,it would be hard if not immpossible for you to get an australian visa if you have a drug record
:(

gereral law is throwing in spanners...we can not buy any american spirit anymore either, they stopped importing

No AmSpir in all of Australia??? Wowzers! :scared:

What was the official reason/explanation behind that I wonder?

the australian market is too small to justify the printing of the packets and cartons with the gruesome quit smoking pics and warnings all over it

it is now illigal to send tobacco by mail in US :(
