Disintegration

I have recently noticed the posts referring to disintegration. They have mostly dealt with disintegration of personalities/people.

I wonder, does this only happen to personalities/people? Or, does it also apply to the realm of matter? I ask because I have been noticing for many months now that some of the vegetables and dairy products I buy and store in my refrigerator do not last nearly as long as they used to. They are spoiling noticeably sooner than in the past.

At first, I thought it was a fluke or my imagination, so I began to pay closer attention. I always buy at the same store and so the same source. This has been ongoing for the past several months (although it is leveling off this month) and so was not a fluke of a single "bad batch". My refrigerator seems to be keeping the same temperature as usual and so probably not a result of bad refrigeration. Although, the veggies I pick from my garden get eaten too soon to see if they are spoiling faster as well. I think I will set some aside (in the refrigerator) as a test.

Is anyone else noticing this? Is this a type of disintegration, or just a sign of poor quality in general. This phenomenon did seem noticeable "all of a sudden one month", although it may have been a slow decline that I did not notice until it reached a certain point. (Like, perhaps I use things up before I could see the decline and when it reached less than a week, which is my shopping schedule, I began to notice.)

I’ve noticing this for the last few years. Especially carrots. It doesn’t seem to matter where we buy them from, I can bend them like rubber within a couple of days and they start to form mould patches on some of them.
We’ve tried the regular stuff and/or organics from various supermarkets, tried the town market, and recently tried carrots from a local farm shop. The farm shop carrots were just as bad, although their speciality was meat so they might have got some of their veg elsewhere just to fill the shelves to make a nice display.

What I do now is peel carrots and put them in the fridge asap. They seem to last longer peeled. Well a week anyway.

My son used to work for a fruit and veg packaging warehouse. Where they weighed, packaged and stuck sell-by labels on the produce for several local stores and small supermarkets. He told me that the fruit and veg that were brought in were sometimes stored for several weeks before they could get round to packaging and labeling it up, and quite a lot had to be picked out and thrown away because it had gone mouldy.
So by the time the customer puts so called fresh stuff in their trolley it could be weeks or months old and on it’s last legs.

Anyways, we’ve sussed out several other local farms which we’re going to try.
