I recently made this salve for my family. I collected the poplar buds in the spring and infused them in olive oil for several weeks prior to making the salve.
Very nice, @nicoleblalonde . I'd like to have a go at making some salves. The recipe for the cottonwood infused oil is missing, maybe you can post it. Thanks.
I make Salve as well nicoleblalonde I use CBD/Hemp flowers and Arnica (Mountain Tobacco) flowers, never tried poplar buds!
I find the crockpot works best for infusing the flowers in Oil - use the low setting, sometimes I simmer the flowers for up to 48 hours - strain and then use the oil base for salve. I've included the recipe that I follow:
CBD Salve
2 Cups Coconut Oil
60 grams dried CBD/Arnica
½ Cup Bee’s wax pellets
¼ Cup Coco Butter/ Shea Butter
Preparation
Simmer Coconut Oil, CBD flowers and 2 cups of water in a crockpot on low for 3-4 hours. When completed strain through a paint strainer and put oil and water mixture in fridge to separate oil from water – when separated remove green oil and toss away remaining water.
Put oil back in crock pot on low and soften to a liquid form add Beeswax and Coco Butter to liquid, wait for Bees wax pellets to melt, stir. Remove from heat and put in a Mason jar or glass measuring cup.
Add Essential Oils once the mixture has cooled to room temperature – ratio is 20 essential oil drops for every ¼ cup salve – can add more for stronger scent
