Is possible to use dmso the days prior to surgery? There is a risk of dangerous contrast between Dmso and anesthesia? Thank you

Are you using DMSO topically or orally?

I did not find anything that contraindicated its use prior to a surgery, however, it is probably a good idea to discontinue use 24 hours before having your operation. Just to be on the safe side, as it does react with the medication Clinoril (a NSAID for inflammation). Good luck and hope all goes well, ermete55. :)

I agree with Lilou! While there are not many anaesthetic drugs which may pose a problem, I think it's safer to stop it 24h prior to the procedure.

Hope all goes well!

I do know of someone who didn't got the anesthetic effect after taking vitamin C right before a dental procedure. The local anesthetic didn't work. Retrospectively, not using vitamin C on the day of the dental procedure would have been ideal. He could have used vitamin C right after the dental procedure though. Just an anecdotal experience worthy of keeping in mind :)

There shouldn't be any problems in case of DMSO, but stopping it 24 hours before sounds reasonable, ermete55.

Thank you all. I use it topically on loins and flanks. So there is no risk of allergy between dmso and anesthesia if i suspend use 24 hours before (major surgery, not dental surgery)? For the smell, is really bad even if i interrupt the use the day before surgery? Thank you and sorry for my bad english

There should be no problems if you suspend it the day before. I think that in worst case scenario, you might still carry some smell with you, but it should be okay. I don't think they will cancel the surgery from a smelly odor.

Just don't mention DMSO - they won't know anything about it, most likely.

Thank you. The use the day after surgery is possible without risk (i ask for the same fear, contrast with anesthesia)

Hi, so the half- life of dmso is 24 hours? there are method to avoid dry skin after continuative use? thank you

The half life of DMSO is around 38 hours - so technically, it takes about 3 days to clear the blood. I still don't find anything that shows it to be interactive with anesthesia meds. As for dry skin, coconut oil, olive oil or something with aloe will help.

Thank you lilou. After the surgery, the day after, can i use it? even if i take a NSAID? sorry but doctors don't know DMSO so i ask to the forum...

What type of surgery are you having done, ermete? Would you be applying the DMSO in the area of your incision?
