A pet dog has mauled its elderly owners, one fatally.
Authorities were called to a home on Hornby Street in Wilton following reports of a dog attack on Thursday afternoon.
There, they found 72-year-old Rosemary O'Reilly and her 74-year-old husband Derek suffering serious bite marks and lacerations.
A NSW Police spokeswoman told 7NEWS.com.au the couple had owned the dog for three years, among others.
It is a large cross-breed and is believed to be part Staffy.
Surgery table tragedy
The two were taken to hospital after receiving treatment.
Rosemary's condition deteriorated in Liverpool Hospital and she died during surgery.
A report will now be prepared for the Coroner.
The dog has been seized by Wollondilly Council Rangers.
A comment made by Mark Singer - a professional dog trainer on this news:
Very sad.
Not much info about this attack. However, I am going out on a limb and state with 100% conviction, the more these positive only ideologues, animal rights organisations such as the RSPCA, and uneducated government ministers, keep pushing for more and more tool bans, and working their way towards outlawing balanced training methods, the more we are going to come across news headlines like this.
If we don't get BACK to treating and respecting dogs as CANINES that act and react from INSTINCT, and NOT loving human emotions, there will be an increase every year on the statistics for dog attacks, and then ultimately in my opinion, the eventual removal of companion dogs, because there will be no way to treat dogs as CANINES anymore. And governments will keep asking the same question every year, why are dog attacks increasing? Answer: They can't see the forest for the trees, due to their own ignorance!
