Dream and dilemma

Hi everyone,
I had a dream where part of my hair kind of disappeared while I was combing it.

In the dream, I had just washed my hair and styled it into a Caesar cut. But then I decided to comb it upwards into a different style. As I was doing that the half I was combing kind of disappeared and I was half bald. I say kind of disappeared because as I paid attention to the half that was still present, my hair had just moved out of place in one uniform piece like a wig. I moved it back into place and continued brushing it into the new style but had to constantly hold the hair in place.

A little background into what’s going on in my life right now. I’m currently in midst of a life direction decision. I have a job as a part time teacher. I’m half way through the 1 year commitment. Though my contract is open and I can walk away with a two weeks’ notice.
Recently I have been presented with two different opportunities to pursue. Both would be opening my own business and would have a better chance of success if I left my current position.

Not getting into too much detail one of the opportunities would require to be dependent on others. The other, not so much and it is of a humbler nature.

My dilemma is should I walk away from the part time job and focus on the new opportunities or try and manage both the teaching job and one of the new opportunities. The only reason I don’t want to walk away from my job right now is because of a major program of mine that keeps me from finishing tasks that I start. The teaching job doesn’t pay very well and it is very challenging as I teach middle school.

What I can’t figure out is if I’m focusing too much on the program thereby missing an opportunity that would help more with my finances. These are the thoughts I have been pondering about when I had this dream.

I’ve done some research into the different symbols, but wanted to see what others take on it might be.

Thanks for reading, all comments welcome.

I think You should follow Your dream :) and that's what You can see (learn) from Your dream is after you wil take a decision :) (which is hard for You) to take it that's why half hair was new. After when You will take a deciosion after some time will come benefits. Definetly is sign for You from my experience. As long as You can take another job and You can live with a little money then keep going :)

FWIW, I read it as this: When you stop following a path that is hard but noble (Caesar), a part of you falls off, and then you are scattered. So, you should stick to Caesar's style and be disciplined.

I would stick to the teaching job while exploring the other venues. At least you keep some income, stability, and pushing hard sometimes is good for you will power.

Not really sure what you mean there by the second job being of a "humbler nature". Being dependent on others if you tend to lack discipline as you explained below, might not be bad, but it depends on the situation and only you know the details. Maybe a question to ask yourself (if you haven't already) would be whether you know those other people, and you trust them, and how trustworthy you are willing to be?

I think those are good reasons for staying for a little bit longer at least.

Well, that depends on whether instead of it being one or the other, you can muster enough will power to do both, maybe? Then you will have improved your finances while working on that program. (I'm assuming that, with enough discipline, you would have the time to do it, since your teaching job is part time.)

FWIW.

Hey Nima, I have to agree with Chu. I was in a similar position to you where I switched my jobs and went from stable to more unstable but I juggled both for a year and a half before making the leap. This let me save up a nest egg and also allowed me to wait for the opportune moment to leave which presented itself in due time.

I think your hair changing is symbolic of your life changing, but you have to stick with the familiar up and until the right moment to go full into the new work opportunity.

If you can do both for a time, do it and as Chu said, it will definitely be an exercise for your self-discipline and will.

I also understand that you have two different opportunities to pursue outside of your teaching job, correct? If it's a matter of choosing between them, perhaps you should network about the details of each in order to get more specific feedback. From what you've written, it's fine to do something with others but you have to gauge how responsible and trustworthy they are beforehand and you may have some blind spots there. Ask yourself have any of these people given me reason to not-trust them in this new business venture? Do any memories or interactions with them spring to mind? Something to ponder.

Hi Chu.
Very good points. I’m also thinking along the same path.

Well one of the opportunities involves being in business with a total stranger and borrowing a large amount of money so I think I have my answer on that one. It also involves a very high tech industry that I think appeals to my ego more than anything else.

The other one I would be growing food and having a little café/restaurant that would go with it. I would be relying only on myself and I have the necessary funds to do it on my own. I say it’s humbler as it would be in the service business and it’s not very prestigious, not necessarily a bad thing.

Hi Puck, yes you understood correctly.

As I said above the high tech business option I don't know the person at all. Only know the person through a mutual acquaintance. You guys bring up good points about trust so I think this option has red flags all over it.

As for doing both the growing/restaurant business and the teaching, it’s definitely doable as the teaching job is part time and the hours would not conflict. It will be very hard but as Chu said with enough will power I believe I’m up for the task.

I know in my past I have always shied away from the hard path, but I know exactly where that easy path leads to.

The teaching job has taught me many things already, as I’m very outside my element.

It has helped with my patience, anger, organization skills and taught me to work with a team. I have very decent coworkers and they have all been very supportive. I also think walking away from them would not be very externally considerate to them or the students.
The teaching experience has given me a new-found appreciation of how hard it is to be an effective teacher and has opened my eyes to certain difficulties that I would have never thought about before.

Thanks guys for the input as I very much appreciate it. I think in my heart I knew what I should do but wanted to also get some objective opinion about it as well.
