Ego

The Living Force
What you came for?
Don't know.
Go

What you came for?
I'm afraid
I will take care of you, sleep quiet

What you came for?
Who are you?
I am your support, your refuge, Stay calm

What you came for?
If you are my support and refuge, then who am I?
You are a part of me and that's why I love you and take care for you, rest on this truth my son.

What you came for?
I am thirsty
I'll satisfy your thirst, trust me

What you came for?
I was always here, I was before you were and will be when you disappear like a dream at night, because I am the hidden truth by oblivion that now finds itself.
Then devour me to become alive... I beg you

A friend and I once talked about the male ego. I was referring to it in a negative context, and he mentioned that the majority of human historical achievement, advancement and accomplishment (both collectively and individually) can be attributed to the possession of the ego.

It's actually true. It made me think how many of my past achievements were influenced by my ego, and how many of my future goals are driven by my ego.

How many people are able to maintain anonymity when achieving astonishing things (inventions, technological advancements, philanthropy). Very few. I would say the primary driver of their enthusiasm and endurance is the ego. How would their motivation and drive be influenced if the ego is taken away, if their name would not be connected to the achievement? If the possible future applause, recognition or gratitude is not part of the incentive.

Will you be able to write a remarkable book under a pseudonym? You can see it with many people in the alternative media, when they say that "this or that info came from us first" or when they say "we said this long before it became common knowledge" or "we were first" or "it came from us".

It makes one wonder what their true motivation really is. The people they claim to serve, or their own needy and hungry egos, because if you really care about the people as you claim, you would be too happy if the information gets out, irrespective of the source.

I find it extremely 'off-putting' when I notice it, and very tempting to disregard the information being dispensed by such an individual or group.

"O Lord but it's hard to be humble" ... and even harder to be a humble messenger by the looks of it ...

Pryf, thank you. I enjoyed that. Very thought provoking.

E, your post took me back a few years, especially this:

I never had the opportunity to know my grandfather, but through my relatives I was given some insight. Here was a very intelligent, well-educated person who, because of racial discrimination and bias, probably never was able to realize his full potential. However, it appears (to me), that he took the lemons and made lemonade. My grandfather was an architect and he designed almost the entire campus of Duke University, The Philadelphia Art Museum, The Philadelphia Free Library and a few other notable buildings. He never got credit for any of them until well after his death in 1950. Yet, he never complained. He has been described as a self-effacing and quiet person. I surmise he recognized that he had a choice and in order to do what he enjoyed and have the opportunity to do what he did, he would have to ditch the ego. Or, possibly that he really didn't care if his name was on it, just as long as he was able to do it. He was very gifted and interested in all forms of art. In his forties, he took piano lessons and married his music teacher. Anyway, since it seems his ego wasn't the moving force for him, it would appear that being able to apply his creative energy in the greatest capacity available to him was more important. It made me seriously contemplate whether I would have been able to do the same in his position with regard to ego. Interestingly, his wife (my grandmother, who I did know) was of much the same mind in that respect. I knew she studied music at the Conservatory of Paris and that she studied under Nadia Boulanger who was her friend and mentor, but I was never aware until 20 years after her death that she had earned a doctorate in music at the Conservatory; at the age of 19 no less. She never spoke of it, nor did anyone else in the family and I only learned of it by asking questions.

As in all things I suppose it gets down to how you deal with it. There's a positive and negative to everything. Today, it seems as though we have lots of examples of egos run amok to the detriment of many. Good lessons to be absorbed.

Perhaps there are many people who do what they do just because that is natural to them. Annette1's description of grandparents serves as an excellent example. Perhaps an artist does not create art because he/she wants to be famous - the creative principle acts through him/her first and later on the ego may take over claiming the "credit". I believe the same is true not only for art but for most facets of human endeavor.
I would even venture to say that the hunger of the ego to become famous is influenced to a pathological degree by modern culture. Previous generations were perhaps less driven to be famous than we are - they possessed humility which we may be sorely lacking in a collective sense. But even today, I believe that works of true value are still the result of a natural expression of a person's "being". However prevalent social conditioning makes sure that the creative act is soon followed by the desire of the ego to stake its claim on the creation. This may also become a practical necessity given the ponerized society we live in ruled by pathological types.
To give an example, take the case of companies A,B,C making a product X and selling it to people. A,B,C have used their individual resources to solve specific problems related to making X and are engaged in healthy competition to differentiate their version of X in the marketplace for greater value. In this situation, in comes company D which studies the product X and then searches the patent database to see if the solution of some key technical problems have been patented or not. D finds that A,B,C have not taken care to patent some of their key ideas. Slowly, D starts making X as well but now takes care of patenting many essential steps of making the next generation of product X which are essentially evolutionary changes. Then when A,B,C bring out their next version of X, they promptly get slapped with patent violation lawsuits from D. The choice left for A,B,C is either to lose their business or join the patent madness. So A,B,C start hiring a bunch of patent lawyers who would take yesterday's innovative solutions to practical problems and find ways of presenting them in a hugely complicated manner to get patents issued. The people who had the ideas which are now being patented are happy that they have their names "recognized" and in the future, whenever they find a somewhat novel way of solving a problem, they promptly try to get it patented. A,B,C thus have a huge bunch of patents issued with which they can nail D if D dares to mess with them again in the future version release of X. Meanwhile millions of $ are spent on lawyers writing patent applications and fighting lawsuits which results in the product X costing more to the common people as A,B,C,D have to raise prices to recover the extra legal costs.
The people working in A,B,C were being creative and solving problems without having their names recognized in the public domain long before D came into the picture. D's advent made sure that they got the recognition and developed a hunger for the same. Did this boost their creativity and motivation further? I don't know for sure but I don't think so. It is possible that they would perhaps waste time and energy dreaming of more and more patents whereas in yesteryears they would have put that time and energy into solving problems - osit.

Maybe a real creative being, a pure conscious being, has no Ego claiming credit, just because Ego has become a tool for his manifestation in a specific space-time event, nothing else.

When this being gives, is giving himself, and only can give that whom has become what is giving.
This being just will not ask for payment, because has become everything has become rich, no one can pay for what this being is giving, possibly there are no expectations only the pure joy of being, and the hanker to help others to be what they really are.

Not in vain, we were told:

Thomas gospel said:
"Those who seek should not stop seeking until they find. When they find, they will be disturbed. When they are disturbed, they will marvel, and will reign over all.

"If your leaders say to you, 'Look, the (Father's) kingdom is in the sky,' then the birds of the sky will precede you. If they say to you, 'It is in the sea,' then the fish will precede you. Rather, the (Father's) kingdom is within you and it is outside you.
When you know yourselves, then you will be known, and you will understand that you are children of the living Father. But if you do not know yourselves, then you live in poverty, and you are the poverty."

Ego will never reign, ego will kneels down and serve the true irresistible king when it comes.

That is why it is crucial to know the ego and make a profound psychological work, that will allow us to find our essence.
A work that accomplish all the teachings in its deepest meaning in different ways, levels and degrees, , Sufism, Christianity,Buddhism, Islamism, Hinduism, Judaism, all the teachings shown us a part of the truth but we will find in its entirely in us.
