I don't know why girls are kept separate form boys. This schools may have own strategies to enhance the ability of women or something like that. What would be the best reason?
Hi Rebecca,
I went to an all girls school when I was in high school. While I can't speak to everyone's experience, I will say it was very helpful to me. At that age, I was aware of the fact that I was uncomfortable around boys and purposely chose the school myself. Schools like this may not be the best choice for everyone, but for me, it was a place where I didn't have to deal with the day to day interactions between boys and girls. I didn't have to worry about what my hair looked like or if I was wearing makeup. Or if anyone liked me or not. It allowed me to focus on learning instead of focusing on social status.
That being said, it may well have been me just avoiding boys.
I would think that if I lived in a society that wasn't so focused on sex, being in a relationship and also fostered respect between both sexes this wouldn't be an issue.
Now based on how I saw other girls act, it wouldn't surprise me to find out that a few of them were placed there by their parents (out of fear) because they were completely focused on boys. It's of course not surprising that for them, being in that school didn't change anything for some. They just met their boyfriends during lunch, after school or at parties. I think for some, it just made them even more determined. Hope that explains a bit. :)
