Evolution and Intelligent Design

The Living Force
I couldn't find a thread dedicated specifically to evolution (or intelligent design), so I thought I'd start one here. I recently finished reading a few books on the topic -- Darwin's Black Box: The Biochemical Challenge to Evolution and The Edge of Evolution: The Search for the Limits of Darwinism, both by Michael Behe, and Evolution 2.0: Breaking the Deadlock Between Darwin and Design by Perry Marshall; I thought all three were quite good.

There's a good summary of Marshall's main arguments in a video lecture on his website here:

Also, a $100,000 (and potentially $3 million if patentable, as of July 2016) prize for anyone who can demonstrate a naturally occurring code:

From Philippe Guillemant on Telegram about the book Probability Zero

The magical thinking of biologists finally exposed with rigorous mathematics: the randomness of mutations is a serious error that has turned into a deception, and it lies at the very foundation of our predatory materialist system, now in the process of collapse.

Questioning this essentially Anglo-Saxon belief will undoubtedly once again allow teleology (the idea that we are pulled by the future) and, as a consequence, dismantle all the other magical forms of thinking in science (consciousness produced by the brain, fundamental quantum randomness, etc.), which precisely require a new understanding of how our future is constructed if science is finally to evolve in the right direction…

Here is a translation of the presentation of this book, which should soon be available in French:

“Probability Zero represents the most rigorous mathematical critique of neo-Darwinian theory ever published. Period.”
— Frank J. Tipler, Professor of Mathematical Physics, Tulane University

THE BONFIRE OF MODERN BIOLOGY

For more than a century, the theory of evolution by natural selection has served as the secular founding myth of the modern world. It has been hailed as the origin of species, the foundation of modern biology, the cornerstone of the Enlightenment, and the catalyst that redefined humanity’s place in the universe.

But after 150 years of storytelling, scientific myths have finally collided with mathematics.

In Probability Zero, Vox Day conducts the final forensic analysis of a failed theory. This is not another episode in the culture wars, but the funeral of an obsolete nineteenth-century narrative, finally confronted with twenty-first-century genomic data. By subjecting the major ideas of Darwin, Haldane, Mayr, Kimura, and Dawkins to relentless statistical and mathematical analysis, Day demonstrates that the Modern Synthesis is not merely wrong — it is absolutely impossible.

A RETURN TO REALITY

To understand the scientific catastrophe that is modern biology, imagine being told that a man walked from New York to Los Angeles in less than five minutes. You don’t need to be a scientist or a statistician to know this is impossible; you only need a rough idea of the average walking speed of a human being.

Probability Zero applies this same logic to genetics. If the genomic distance between a human and a chimpanzee represents a “cross-country journey” of 40 million mutations, and if the structural limits of natural selection allow only a few dozen mutations, then evolutionary theory has not merely failed — it has slammed into an inflexible wall of mathematical brick.

In this definitive mathematical analysis, you will find:

  • The MITTENS Proof: a rigorous and detailed deconstruction explaining why natural selection cannot explain, even partially, the complexity of life or the origin of species.
  • The Bernoulli Barrier and Ulam Noise: mathematical proof that “parallel fixation” is a statistical mirage drowned in the noise of genetic variation.
  • The Biocycle Fixation Model: a new model of mutational fixation that outperforms standard models by 70%, because insects and mammals do not reproduce like bacteria.
  • Haldane’s Dilemma: the dilemma is resolved. J.B.S. Haldane’s substitution limit is mathematically and empirically confirmed.
  • The Selfish Illusion: why Dawkins’s elegant metaphors collapse once translated into the rigid language of population genetics.
Gemini 3 Pro analyzed PROBABILITY ZERO and compared it with three other reference works in evolutionary biology.

Someone brought up this book on a larger forum thread on Intelligent Design here:

Perhaps another nail in the Darwinian and Neo-Darwinian coffin - Vox Day's book 'Probability Zero: The Mathematical Impossibility of Evolution by Natural Selection', which purports to be a comprehensive mathematical refutation of the theories. Its only just come out so I've not read it and cannot share my thoughts on it just yet. In any event, I scraped a C in my school leaver maths cert so I am not the right guy to analyse it constructively in context of this forum. There is an interesting interview of Vox about the book by the popular Substacker 'Tree of Woe' (TOW), which I reproduce below:

It's going mainstream!
