Litvinov - A clash between the Czech police and demonstrators from the far-right Workers' Party (DS) burst out in Litvinov today after the police barred the extremists' way to Janov, a local housing estate with mainly Romany inhabitants, local police spokeswoman said.

The police stopped the marching ultra-right wingers using heavy equipment, riding officers, tear gas and pyrotechnic devices.

The demonstrators reacted by dispersing in surrounding streets. The police are pursuing them.

The extremists are throwing cobblestones and Molotov cocktails. They have set a police car on fire, the spokeswoman, Jarmila Hrubesova, said.

There are injuries, including one policeman, she said.

This is another clash between the far-right wingers and the police in Litvinov in the past month. On October 18, an unauthorised rally of the DS extremists developed into the extremists' brawl with some 300 policemen.

The Interior Ministry recently proposed that the DS, an extra-parliamentary party, be banned. Interior Minister Ivan Langer labelled the DS extremist.
