HiThere
The Living Force
"Newspaper deliverer witnessed a fireball in Southern Norway early Wednesday morning.
Tove Haveland is still exited after the event early Wednesday morning. While most peolpe in Norheimsund were asleep,
she was out delivering the day's newspapers. Then she saw something in the morning sky.
– It was a little before 05.30 AM and I could see the moon in my right eye corner. Then it happened: It was as if something exploded in the sky. Then it was just as if a fireball fell from the sky, it glided slowly downwards. The colour was the same as the moon, but it didn't illuminate the area like the moon, Haveland explains.
It lasted for some seconds, and was much larger than a shooting star.
The fireball was like an octopus with its arms hanging. I sw the flames around it and it was a terrifyinf spectacle, Haveland depicts.
When she returned to her home there were still traces in the sky of the phenomenon: Two long and wide stripes that showed where the fireball had fallen, and which remained for hours.
The picture was taken 1 hour after the fireball was visible.
- We have recieved reports from large parts of Scandinavia about this fireball, astrophycicist Knut Jørgen Røed Ødegaard says.
- The fireball have been observed in Gudbrandsdalen, Østlandet og Trøndelag, Ødegaard says to NRK.no.
The fireball was visible in the south of Scandinavia at 05.24 05.25 AM.
– The observations shows that the fireball fell from East to West, and passed the border from Sweden.
There have been no reports of sound coming from the meteor, which implies that it probably burnt to cinders before it reched the ground.
Haveland is surprised when told of the fireballs path.
- I thought it landed in the mountains here in Hardanger. It makes me realize the enourmus size it must have been, because it looked like it was really close, Tove Haveland says.
