Fishing

Hi All,

For the years I am frequented with the dream with the same theme - fishing. I see them about 2-3 times weekly.
From what I read, fishing theme might represent going through trying to figure out or looking/picking through emotions. But I do not think I got right understanding of it, since my psyche seems to bring the same thing up in the dreams again and again. Or may be it's just merely a reflection of inner flow of processes, or perhaps something points out to need of fishing symbolically speaking :) I would appreciate any input or leads on such dream theme.

All these dreams about fishing have the same quality. I am getting ready for fishing (with group of people usually), either I am approaching water, put boat on a water, or about to cast. But I actually do not get to fishing itself ! Something usually happens right before that, someone interferes or when I cast water disappears or morphs into something else, like reflective flooring or surrounding turn into a building or a room.

Any thoughts on symbolism behind it ?

Thank You.

Hi agni, never sure about sites that interpret dreams but fwiw, here is what was found of two separate people's interpretations; does not address the not fishing aspect, unless it is of course the opposite:

Fishing in a Dream | What does it mean when I dream about fishing?

1 said:
To dream of fishing means opportunity. Is the line cast in the water or is it tangled up on the shore? If the line is in the water and seems good, then surely good opportunity is present at this time. If the fisher is struggling with the line, or the weather is poor, this may not be the best time to take an opportunity.

To dream of fishing means that you are confronting and bringing your repressed emotions to the surface. To dream that you are fishing with a fishing pole or a fishing net means hard work, stick to it, planning, awareness and that you are always prepared in the natural. It can also represent your dependability, reliability, resourcefulness, your patience, and your ability to see a project or an idea through to the end. To dream of fishing in a river, stream, ocean, or lake with a fishing net that is intact, but when the fishing net is pulled up, the fishing net is torn and all the fish escape means an obstacle or a flaw in a plan that could involve your work. It can also represent greed and your lack of compassion and your willingness to step over or hurt somebody emotionally to get to the place in life that you want to be. To dream that you are fishing in clear water and could see the fish bite means that you will discover or acquire some knowledge that can be used very advantageously. To dream that you are fishing with bait means that you are thinking about the choices that you make. To dream of fishing with worms means profit and success. To dream that you are ice fishing means that you are breaking through a hardened emotional barrier and confronting difficult feelings from your unconscious.

Hi agni,

It seems that the dream is telling you that you need to take care of something before you can actually fish, as the interruptions and disappearing water would indicate.

Do you decide to go fishing or do you just begin in that scenario?

As Voyager pointed out, water can often represent emotions. So perhaps someone or something may be blocking your emotions or stopping you from being able to express yourself?

Hi agni,

I tend to agree with other's comments. The water could represent your unconscious emotions, which you keep trying to begin to bring to the surface (by fishing), but various obstacles are preventing you from actually beginning to access that information. The fact that there are usually other people present while you try to fish, and sometimes they actually interfere, makes me wonder if indeed as truth seeker said, are other people blocking you in some way from releasing and expressing these emotions?

I agree with the above and others here.

The idea of fishing in a dream is to bring out any repressed or unconscious emotions "to the surface," so you would possibly work with them. But, it would appears that some aspects of yourself (likely dark or narcissism or others, etc.) that are preventing the real "you" from doing so. Once there is a realization of some force preventing you, you may want to find out what is it that is preventing you (what aspects of yourself, what area in a real life that could become a hindrance, whose energy you interact with on a regular basis that could affect you on some level, and so on).

fwiw.

Thank You All for the input. I appreciate it.

Symbolically it makes sense to me. Seems to me I have ongoing issues with emotions being suppressed consciously and unconsciously. First it was anger, now this ?! :p

Things just keep manifesting one way or another. Goes kind of in line of what Laura wrote in burglary thread:

Laura said:

When I was burglarized, it was a symbol of being wide open to negative manipulation via those supposed to be closest to me and that was, of course, due to ignorance.

Makes me think. In one of the fishing dreams, I was actually about to cast (while in company of friends), where the person that is close to me said: "Oh, there are bricks laying over there", let's go steal them! Everyone got up to do so, except me, I've said: I do not need any stinky bricks, and especially steal them, I just want to fish! I am not going. But the person was very insistent, I kept saying no. But when I was casting, the person intercepted the line and hook got into my palm, which was painful. I've said, let it go, you are hurting me. But the person did not let it go, the person kept saying let's go, come on, you are only going to hurt yourself more by resisting (the person was maintaining tension of the line) . After that, I was furious along with a feeling of unbelievable betrayal, saying you are not going to make me, let it go NOW ! I will break the grip of the hook, and after that I am going to e'ffing kill you. (I woke up after that)

That's I think quite interesting symbolism, especially in light of what you've all told me.
I have a question, that person was someone I know and close to in real life, could it be a fat chance that this particular person is involved in manipulation or it was just an image used for archetypal representation to point out (signify) just to anyone close to me ? I know it's up to dreamer to see that, but I am curious to hear thoughts on that. (if anyone wants to comment of course :)

Then on other occasions, there are frequent occurrences where before fishing I witness criminal elements or events, so fishing just does not become a priority anymore.

And yesterday, I had what I think was a dark men dream, where I was asking the dark men if he is interested in fishing, he was just staring at me. I thought he does not understand what I am saying, so i was showing with hands what fishing is. He kept looking, said you can stop explaining this to me, and he has left in kind of frustration. (He got what I meant, just did not want to acknowledge it for some reason)

Would be interesting to figure out what this is. What is being suppressed.
So business as usual, work, work, work, work :)

Others will correct me if i am wrong in this interpretation of what i put in bold.

It seems to me that your response of "i'm going to kill you" was based in rage. That person was acting as a petty tyrant and got you to respond in a certain manner, whether it was productive or not, remains to be seen. Maybe there was a more controlled manner in which to respond instead of emotionally like you did. The way you reacted may have been due to frustration because of them interfering with you getting in deeper contact with your emotions though.

Those possibilities, are not mutually exclusive, meaning that both could be correct, and so the question then becomes, how do you handle it in your interactions with them, both in your inner and outer life, always utilizing strategy ie control of the horse (emotions).

Maybe you need to get your priorities in order. Interesting that you quoted Laura about being burglarized and here criminal occurrences shift your priorities, is there something in that? or am i just plain wrong.

Maybe he was there to distract, but seeing as you were not dis-tractable, left in frustration ie mission not accomplished.

I did not mean this in literal way, of course :) You are right it was rage/anger. I'd say there is nothing wrong to utilize anger to overcome pain, escape the immediate grip and stop such abuse if done constructively, I do not think it is possible to resolve such abuse in peaceful way. But as blind as I am, I could be wrong and just don't know any better.

And today, finally !!! I was able to fish and caught a big one !!! Yay ! (took time and effort to get it out of the water). And unlike majority of other dreams, it was on the river, not lake. People showed up to see after I got it out, asking how I caught it.

I do not know if I finally found what it was, but I've been thinking about certain inner energy dynamics, and after reading topic on Spirit Release therapy , (these posts below in particular), it gave me a perspective of how to approach/deal such energies in general (spirit attachment or not), and that I need to dedicate self to follow through:

Some others of this variety are really determined and you have to figure out what it is they are there for, what influence they have on the individual, and then the individual has to work on removing those elements from their lives so that the attached entity no longer gets its "food." Say, for example, the attached entity wants to induce its victim to drink for the express purpose of destroying his life out of revenge. The victim then must take charge and NOT do any of the things identified as the "life destroying thoughts" that are not part of his original life plan. This can be problematical, at best, impossible in some cases.
...
Next level is that of the entities that have never had bodies of their own for any of a number of reasons. Many of them just flee right away because they don't have a lot of energy or intelligence. Others are more difficult, and this classification can go right up to heavy duty demonic types of incredible strength and cunning. It's pretty iffy when dealing with this sort and it's often useless if the individual isn't fully aware of their own participation in the activities that permit and perpetuate the dynamic. Like it says in the Bible, you can clean the house, but if you don't put something else in there, the one you send away will go and find a dozen more and come back. Putting something else in there means knowledge and awareness.

That's just a quick run-down. Bottom line is this: if you change your FRV, whatever attached to a former FRV can't hang around. Things that can do that include acquiring knowledge, awareness, changing your habitual ways of thinking and reacting, changing elements in your life including diet, etc.

So, thank you all again !

Awesome agni,

Congratulations.

Don't know what the significance if any, of catching the fish on a river as opposed to a lake may be though.

I think significance of lake vs river, is that lake might represent stale state opposed to moving flow of the river, if it makes sense.

And in general, since I am known for not expressing clearly, the reason I brought up Spirit Release Therapy in context of the dream, is the thought that perhaps, a program or possible attachment or whatever energy it is, if it takes place of real emotion it can count as suppressor/manipulator of that emotion, by blocking expression of it. And i have spotted some potential fakes, because certain engagements in my behaviours does not makes sense. Since it's on the surface now, I can learn to deal with it. Not sure if I still get it right, time will tell IMHO. I hope it makes more sense for general purpose sake :)
