Re: FOTCM Anthem?

Hi Corto,

you answer the question yourself in my opinion. Should this song be an "Anthem" for FOTCM? my answer is no. Your interpretation of the song/lyrics as motivational concerning FOTCM is subjective and so not suitable. I understand you weren't implying FOTCM needs an anthem, and I read the subject title as kind-of a joke btw. I wanted to give my take however.

Lyrics below:

Roman candles that burn in the night
Yeah, you are a shining light
You lit a torch in the infinite
Yeah, you are a shining light
Yeah, you light up my life

You've always been a thorn in their side
But to me you're a shining light
You arrive and the night is alive
Yeah, you are a shining light
Yeah, you light up my life

We made our connection
A full on chemical reaction
Brought by dark divine intervention
Yeah, you are a shining light
A constellation once seen
Over Royal David's city
An epiphany you burn so pretty
Yeah, you are a shining light

You are a force, you are a constant source
Yeah you are a shining light
Incandescent in the darkest night
Yeah you are shining light
My mortal blood I would sacrifice
For you are a shining light
Sovereign bride of the infinite
Yeah, you are a shining light
Yeah, you light up my life

We made our connection
A full on chemical reaction
Brought by dark divine intervention
Yeah, you are a shining light
A constellation once seen
Over Royal David's city
An epiphany you burn so pretty
Yeah, you are a shining light

And these are days you often say
There's nothing that we can't do
Beneath a canopy of stars
I'd shed blood for you
The north star in the firmament
You shine the most bright
I've seen you draped in an electric veil
Shrouded in celestial light

We made our connection
A full on chemical reaction
Brought by dark divine intervention
Yeah, you are a shining light
A constellation once seen
Over Royal David's city
An epiphany you burn so pretty
Yeah, you are a shining light
Yeah, you light up my life
Yeah, you are a shining light
Yeah, you light up my life

To me these lyrics represent dependancy and attachment. thats my subjective interpretation as of the moment. I am definitely in a critical mood. I don't look at FOTCM as a "shining light" that "lights up my life". I have only been with this community a short time which may be some reason why. Anyways, interesting view. I didn't particularly care for the song and don't know the band btw. I'm wondering which lyrics stick out for you? I didn't analyze the whole song line by line, just breezed over it :)

As a disclaimer, at the beginning of Corto's post, he mentions "at least for me, its great motivational song", stating clearly it is only his opinion. If, as you said, you didn't take the time to analyze the lyrics, and you were in a critical mood when replying, why then would you post your said "subjective interpretation" before revisiting the post in a somewhat less critical mood?

Perhaps you could analyze why you reacted so subjectively to Corto's post. Do you have feelings one way or the other towards the FOTCM?

 Not only should it be the anthem, we should also order some of those fancy suits that Annie Lennox is wearing, and that could be the official gear of fotcm members! ...subjectively speaking of course. ;D

Re: FOTCM Anthem?

Well... I dunno about an "Anthem", but I like both versions of the song. I think they're both uplifting and "feel good". They both put a smile on me...

Yes he does state: "at least for me, its great motivational song" so that is why I said is that he answered his own question i.e it should not be the anthem for FOTCM. my logic being that FOTCM should have an objective anthem.

I just found his post something I could immediately respond too. I don't think my post really had to do with my feelings toward FOTCM. Mostly I just found the suggestion of a FOTCM anthem ridiculous, that is what prompted my response. I guess I realize that anyone has the "right" to suggest an anthem for FOTCM. I was criticizing his choice of music for a FOTCM anthem as-well. I think this part is okay. I offered my subjective opinion on the music as did he. that is okay?

I could have came across better.
I feel bad for being so serious in a topic which I read as a light-hearted joke.

I would not have responded if the subject had been "a great motivation song" etcetera. I expected when I clicked on the link of the subject to read a compelling "argument" for why a certain song should be the FOTCM anthem. or I expected to find an argument for why FOTCM should have an anthem in the first place. I did not find either that I think is what disturbed me. the logic I found was "at least for me, its a great motivation song". At first when I saw the subject I was expecting a serious post, instead it was more light-hearted.

As to my feelings toward FOTCM:

I said
I don't look at FOTCM as a "shining light" that "lights up my life"
. it is true.

I think I have more of a respect at the moment for FOTCM. I am not a part of it, but I might be if I was old enough. maybe that is why it doesn't light up my life / inspire me. now I guess I might look at the forums here as a "shining light" that "lights up my life". I would have to say yes actually. somewhat at least.

Yeah... my thoughts were a little mixed up when writing my post...

Then it is very strange if not rude that you are posting in this thread.

If you didnt notice smileys are usually posted to express less serious mode of communication and sometimes plain joking.
As for this song it has great personal value and that is all there is to it. Personal impressions, tastes and opinions are not commonly expressed in serious boards of this forum as they usually dont have much value, but when they are expressed in less serious boards such as this one then it is the matter of common courtesy if you dont like something to stay quiet. De gustibus non est disputandum.

I heard this song for the first time shortly after I spent some time with FOTCM dynamo team which was great eye opener and also heart opener. It happened that this song was expressing exactly how I felt at this moment. Happy now?

Please read the quote in my signature before posting further in this thread.

I think I understand. In my first post i didn't "tread softly". My post was a bit inappropriate. I understood I was being critical from the start, but I misjudged the significance of the song to you. I didn't mean to attack your relationship too FOTCM... or actually I'm not sure.

I did notice you were kind of joking... if you read my post above i explained why i responded seriously. [/quote]

I think explained by reaction most correctly at this part:

your right though IMO, since i was in the music forum I should not have taken it so seriously.

Happy now?

are you joking a bit? or do i just find the statement funny because it makes me unconformable. I don't like to make people mad (for the most part). I was fearing your response to my original post. If I could take it back i would. some part of me didn't think you would be offended, while some part of me did. Thanks for your response, I think I "get it"--like, why my post wasn't too smart-- a bit more now, after hearing your reply.

Re: FOTCM Anthem?

Good songs for this purpose!

I would suggest this one as well, (obviously subjective to me) which I found on the sidebar while viewing those.

change,
everything you are
and everything you were
your number has been called
fights, battles have begun
revenge will surely come
your hard times are ahead (x3)

best,
you've got to be the best
you've got to change the world
and you use this chance to be heard
your time is now (x3)

don't,
let yourself down
don't let yourself go
your last chance has arrived (x1, followed by "best" stanza)

I changed the title of this thread to the more appropriate one.

Here is another one worth sharing. It happened to be on the random play of my ipod right after I finished EE on the cliff overlooking the sunset

Let the morning sun proclaim
The light of the world
Let the golden day unfurl

On every wave
On every hill
Each angered fist uncurl

Caress the hardest heart
Stir the sleeping earth
Each stone
Each blade of grass

The soul of the world
Ignite a brand new day
Let the morning sun proclaim
A brand new start
Caress the hardest heart

The soul of the world
Ignite a brand new day
A brand new start
A brand new way
