WHO Report on the Global Tobacco Epidemic, 2009: Implementing smoke-free environments
_http://www.who.int/tobacco/mpower/2009/en/index.html

and their propaganda piece is here: _http://www.who.int/tobacco/mpower/2009/GTCR_2009-web.pdf

After skimming the report I genuinely feel sorry for the tobacco plant.
Also, the writers of this report can't seem to make a distinction between tobacco and a commercial cigarette.

But of course, they're doing all this in our best interests.

Please excuse my tiny rant here, but it seems to me that this "WHO Report on the Global Tobacco Epidemic" would be an excellent candidate for the "Tickle Me" section if it wasn't so pathetically typical of "our protectors."

I read the title, k, the title. All I can say is that i'm getting really, really, really fed up with the idea that the government cares about our health at all.

It's going to be a great bonus, after i finally detox (slowly getting there) to be one of the healthiest people in town, and also be a smoker!!!

My parents want me to quit smoking, but they don't listen to a single, solitary word I say about aspertame!!

Understandable, but frustrating. :)

sorry for the mini-rant

Too bad you can't get them to read this article by Laura.

You can rant on this all you want; I do it myself. In fact, you ought to start a blog for some of your better rants!

Well, my youtube account needs a new addition anyway, maybe i'll rant on youtube.

I'm surprised you're encouraging me on this, most people... but you probably already know what i'm going to say...

well, i guess i didn't think anybody took me that seriously when i do rant.

Well boys and girls, I just threw up a new video on youtube where I rant and rave about what i'd prefer to call the "carcinogen epidemic", so to speak.

There's lots of naughty language, as a forewarning.

Enjoy!

Here's an old Nazi anti-smoking ad I found on wikipedia:

German_anti-smoking_ad.jpeg

In English it says, "He does not devour it.... It devours him!"

source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-tobacco_movement_in_Nazi_Germany

I also found this page which examines anti-smoking ads as art:

http://www.toxel.com/inspiration/2009/10/08/17-creative-anti-smoking-ads

Here, the most interesting thing for me was the comment section at the bottom. The group-think is insane. One comment in particular gave me chills: "thats excellent, but im afraid smokers still smoke in spite of these effective works !what should be done?" There were a couple examples of people applying some thought to the issue, but the overall thrust was "Great ads! Smoking sucks!"

I would say the more things change, the more they stay the same... but in reality nothing has changed, except superficially.
