Dagobah Resident
As per the title, I just finished reading "generation me."
It's by Jean Twenge, the subtitle of the cover reading "Why today's young americans are more confident, assertive, entitled,
and more miserable than ever before."
The book contains a lot of research (though mostly statistics, and I can't say i'm the biggest fan of statistics)
and draws comparisons between the behavior and attitude of one generation to another.
Let me just say that I liked this book enough to finish reading it in just a couple of days, because I kept racking my brain
over how much society has changed in a matter of decades.
All in all i'd say you can add it to the stack of other books about narcissism and related topics. It gives a bit of insight
into certain trends that come from what Twenge deemed "raising a little army of narcissists."
She discusses how "self-esteem" programs for children are misguided and how what we really do nowadays is make children
think they're the center of the universe, and have boosted their self-importance to an all time high.
More topics are covered as well of course, but if you're interested you can just read the book. All in all a good read, written in
plain english.
