A Disturbance in the Force
I'm new here, and I didn't see a thread for this, so I hope it's OK that I started this one...
In June, while in Sedona AZ, I set my alarm for 3 am so I could go out and look at the night sky, unpolluted by light. I could hardly sleep in anticipation of viewing the Milky Way for the first time in years (since I live in the city). But to my surprise, the stars were just as few as always, so I headed back to my hotel room. My cousin and niece were with me, and the loud click of the hotel door woke them. They wanted to see what I just saw, though I told them it was nothing special, and I was highly disappointed since this was our only night in Sedona. Still, they had to see. So we went out together and peered just above the horizon at the silhouettes of Sedona's famous rock formations. There was an unusual twinkling light that caught our attention - it was too big to be a star, but too stationary to be a plane. The twinkling became small bursts of light, in red and green. After a minute or two, a yellowish halo appeared, and then the strangest thing happened. A "drop" of light fell from this object, about a half-inch down in our vantage point. Then the "drop" vanished, but the object remained, and kept twinkling and sending out bursts. My cousin saw my look of surprise and said, "This isn't your first UFO, is it?" Actually, yes... it was. But I wasn't convinced yet, even though Sedona is known for such activity. I told my scientific 20 year old son about it, and he said, "Oh Mom, that was probably just a geosynchronous satellite." So... I looked up information on those, but couldn't find anything about the green and red lights, the yellowish halo, or the "drop" of light.
Then just last night, from my window at 1 am, I saw another twinkling light that stood out among the other stars in the eastern sky. I got the binoculars. The red and green lights were there again, blinking. No halo, no drop. But it moved higher in the sky quicker than the surrounding stars. I couldn't see the movement, it was much like the moon in speed I suppose.
Ideas, anyone?
