A Virginia woman was fined $535 dollars after her 11-year-old girl prevented an endangered woodpecker from being eaten by a cat.
After saving the bird, the pair bumped into a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agent who issued them a fine and a threat of jail time for illegal transport of an endangered species.

They did eventually drop the charges, likely after community outrage, saying it was a miscommunication, as the mother was really intending to report the woodpecker to the proper agency. But more than likely, the poor woman didn't even know it was illegal to begin with!

Unbelievable - seems these days it is fines first or worse, and common sense last; if ever. :(

Here is a list of 'Red Listed Species at Risk' - some may not be accurate or lean more towards blue listed species and some are political in their designations; yet the reality is, whether animals or humans (2&3d), we've all been placed at risk by recklessness and the unchecked illness of mental pathology.

My goodness, what are the odds of running into someone from that department while in Lowes ??

I'm glad the woodpecker is ok, but I'm surprised they didn't charge the cat with assult on an endangered species.

Ridiculous!
