Half a head man baffles Miami cops

Not sure if he fits the psychopath profile, just didn't know where would be a proper place for it. But wonder if lack of frontal lobe wouldn't be the main reason for his "criminal" behavior. Lack of impulse control? Interesting to notice that he can function at all. :scared: Also, wonder how he was before the accident.

POLICE got a real headache filling in an arrest form for this suspect.

In the "unique physical features" section, the charge sheet crudely states "half a head".

Normally it would list details of tattoos, scars or birth marks.

But bemused officers in Miami, Florida, struggled to come up with a medical term to describe the suspect's unique feature.

The man, believed to be 25-year-old Carlos Rodriguez, had part of his skull surgically removed after an accident.

When his mug shots were posted on the Miami-Dade County website, it sparked rumours the images were faked.

But a spokeswoman for the Miami-Dade County Pre-Trial Detention Center said she saw the suspect while he was being processed and added: "I just looked at him. I see a lot of stuff. It didn't really bother me."

The man was arrested on suspicion of soliciting prostitution.

The pictures were removed from the site after he was released earlier this month.

Here are more pictures, and also, additional description of his "offenses" from another site.

According to a police report, he allegedly tried to purchase vaginal sex from an undercover officer for $80.

And this isn’t his first offense–or mugshot. According to the Miami New Times, he has a laundry list of offenses that include “disorderly intoxication, solicitation of a prostitute, possession of weed, and burglary. But really– can you blame him for any of that?”

I'm not sure his medical state implies that he is a psychopath. Petty crimes do not make one a psychopath, it makes one a petty criminal. As far as soliciting prostitution, I can imagine that his dating prospects are "poor" and perhaps he feels as if he has little choice other than to pay for sex.

I view this story as more of a strange combination of perseverance and tragedy.

On the other hand, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. You've got a bit of critical correcting and projection going on. Petty criminal is still a criminal. I don't think it's wise to use his condition as a crutch for his anti-social behavior. It could very well be that damage to his head is a factor in his behavior.

Of course, but this only goes to my point, there is no data to suggest he is a psychopath. There *is* data to suggest he is a jerk.

You've got a bit of critical correcting and projection going on.

I don't think so, I am not a petty criminal, don't frequent prostitutes, nor do I have any major medical deformities, so I'm not projecting.

Petty criminal is still a criminal.

Yes, this is true. This still doesn't make him a psychopath.

I don't think it's wise to use his condition as a crutch for his anti-social behavior.

Well, yes. Its not wise for him to solicit prostitution, be drunk and disorderly, and steal, regardless of any condition. Still condition or not, he isn't the first guy to engage in this kind of behavior and he sure as heck isn't going to be the last.

It could very well be that damage to his head is a factor in his behavior.

Edit: I attempted to fix your quotes rs, let me know if I've done it correctly. Thanks

I think what Heimdallr might have meant when he said that he thought you were projecting was that you're making up reasons for this man's behavior. You're conjuring up reasons for his behavior based on his appearance/deformity. Perhaps this is fueled by pity? I felt pity when I saw the picture.

It looks to me like his police record might be linked to a lack of impulse control and 'self-medicating', which might be explained by the missing front of his brain. I don't really know enough about brain structure to be certain, but it is interesting.

Yes, this is exactly what I meant.

Well, I've cared for people with traumatic brain injuries before...and what I've found to be true is this: If the man was a jerk before the injury, having half his head taken off from an accident isn't going to fix anything.

Granted, the few men I did know with similar injuries were in persistent vegetative states, but more of their mid brain tissue was damaged or missing than just some of the frontal lobes. I think, as long as the brain stem and the deep midbrain isn't damaged beyond functioning, the human body can stay alive a long time just fine.

Seeing this man's picture, though, did bring a tear or two to my eyes.
