Hand, foot, and mouth disease

Hope it's fine that I create this as a new thread, didn't see a separate thread dedicated to this particular virus.

My cousin who is 35 has had outbreaks of Hand, Foot and Mouth disease off and on for a couple years now, since about late July 2014. Apparently HFMD can be caused by either Coxsackievirus A16 or Enterovirus 71. She'll get sores in her mouth and blisters on her hands, possibly on her feet as well. I believe she also gets a fever. Early last week I found out she had it again and that she went to the doctor. We were talking about hanging out today but something else came up for me.

It's probably too soon to visit anyway, as it's maybe been a bit over 10 days or so. From what I found out online, it usually resolves on its own in 7-10 days, the first week being the most contagious. She's feeling better and I'm not sure what to tell her about when we can next visit. Anyone have any insight into this virus, any advice on how long I should give it before visiting again with her? I've also been reading up more about the virus, trying to get a better sense of what it is, and why it keeps coming back.

I have never seen a case of it before.
I noticed (yesterday?) on Sott that the disease is breaking out in 3 states right now; Florida, New Jersey and Kansas. Yikes.

Hello cleo, i was reading something here

_https://www.sciencenews.org/blog/growth-curve/seven-facts-and-mystery-about-hand-foot-and-mouth-disease

It read that the virus thrives on warm weather, maybe you can suggest cold showers to her?

This was something that I never saw in the 90s and early 2000s. Now it is so common, at least in Spain, that parents and people in general already make the diagnosis at the first signs of the disease.

Interesting, I noticed a link to the Florida outbreak yesterday but not to the other states. Also, there's been another outbreak of the disease in a few Connecticut schools as of yesterday:

Thanks..I'll mention that to her.

Was looking up other natural ways to treat it and bone broth is mentioned. I remember her sister making her bone broth earlier this year too when she had it. Another thing that comes to mind..is her telling me the last time I saw her, that she wanted to get tested for gluten sensitivity, even celiac disease I believe.

Anyway, my guess is that she might've got it at the community swimming pool. She would swim there almost weekly for awhile I believe.

Yeah, it could be a sign of weakened inmune system or liver that contribute to the second outbreak.

A quick read on the virus bindings mentioned the virus binds to. av integrins receptors, (alpha v) integrins (proteins) found in certain cells, the list on the link below has a box with the distribution of the different types of av receptors and its distribution throught the body:

It is more than likely that she got it from the pool the process of gestation of the virus says to be 3-6 days, but then is she the only one who got it? I mean did she go alone or with someone? If she went with someone, did anyone else got it also?
It could be her inmune system is very weak.

Yes, it does seem odd. Why all the hooha, now? Perhaps it to make up for lack of 'hysteria' about other virus's that are currently going around?
http://kidshealth.org/en/parents/coxsackie.html

Apparently it's a member of the Picornaviridae family from the Enterovirus genus which includes the Polio Virus and the Hepatitis A virus. Also a person who is infected may shed the virus for 'several weeks'. I'm not sure how many, though. It doesn't say. Maybe they don't know? Or, maybe it is a person specific thing?

If her immune system is less than optimal, would she benefit from Vitamin C? I've heard that it can be the 'great equalizer' where bugs are concerned. (Viral AND bacterial)
http://www.naturalnews.com/040770_vitamin_C_virus_Dr_Thomas_Levy.html

Sometimes I wonder if health professionals wouldn't be better off giving a bottle of vitamin C to patients and telling them to go home, take fluids and rest, rather than paracetamol. But, I suppose they are not allowed (especially if it's not an injection or a 'modern medicine' vaccination). :(

In her book 'Dissolving illusions' dr. Suzan Humphries presents evidence of how in the past this disease was spread through the smallpox(cowpox) vaccine. So who knows, with the zillion vaccines people are taking nowadays, perhaps some get infected with this? Humphries also describes how just before the polio vaccine was introduced, many cases of FH&M-disease was intentionally classified as polio, to get the ratings up in order to polish the statistics after the vaccine.

Nothing more to add than I have heard about this disease... two hours ago (a neighbour's son aged of around 20 months has it) and then I found this thread.

I was anyway wondering why a such difference about what "seems" - to me from datas here - new in USA and so common in Spain from Gaby.

I found some more info about multiple outbreaks. The doctor here is referring to children, those with a healthy immune system even.. but I think it could still apply:

http://www.drgreene.com/qa-articles/catch-handfootandmouth-disease/] Hand-foot-and-mouth syndrome is caused by several different viruses said:

She didn't mention anyone else getting it, that she knew. Vaguely remember something about someone else she didn't know getting it around that time. Will look into it further.

Interesting..I've read somewhere else where people can be contagious for a couple weeks. So maybe, a person specific thing? Still not sure when we'll next visit. Also, I believe she takes vitamin C but will check in with her about that as well. I've been taking it in powder form in water lately.

Thanks for the links here in this thread.
