Yup, it's that time of year again. Our youngest always wants to get the family together for a good horror flick. Tonight, it was "Cloverfield." It really was creepy and well done! Now, let's hope I can sleep tonight.

Happy All Hallows' Even. Cloverfield is on my 'to watch' list.
We went trick or treating with my girlfriends youngest and her mother. It was really nice :)

We usually watch a B movie called "Split Second" with Rutger Hauer and Kim Cattral. It's about a monster in the London Underground. The Hero (Rutger) could sense the monster when he ate a lot of chocolate and drank coffee. (Its unintentionally funny in a lot of spots) "House" is another one. We like to get a dozen or so together and have folks over for munchies. (No one could make it last few years, we're too far out in the boonies)

I can't watch Cloverfield because of the shaky camera work. My hubby saw it first, to check it out,and said "You'd barf honey." If they have a novel version, I'll have to read it. :D

I watched Cloverfield on my own about a month ago. It sure was CREEPY!!! However I had to watch it in two "sittings" because the shaky camera work made me nauseous half-way through. Mind you it was the shaky-cam which made everything so authentic and believable.

***SPOILER***

Here's a little bit of interesting trivia about that film: at the very end, when you see the footage of the young couple on the Coney Island Ferris wheel, the guy pans his camera to the sea and you can see a "UFO" plunge into the water. Apparently this was the thing from "outer space" that carried the spawn/eggs of you-know-what.

Sadly we don't have Halloween here, you guys also put those pumpkins on your front door and stuff? or do you only watch a horror movie? :D

Agreed. Reading it wouldn't be as creepy. Funny that the camera work didn't bother me as it would have done before. Must be getting a grip on my candida and vertigo by using that infrared sauna!

Okay, now I gotta go back and watch that part... yeah, the date stamp on the Coney Island portion was about a month prior to the "event," wasn't it?

It's funny that a movie with so LITTLE footage of anything really gross could be so creepy!

We live out in the country and are surrounded by a big park with 6 foot fence and have multiple dogs so, no "trick or treating" around here. I don't think they do Hallowe'en the same way in France as in the US anyway. But they do have parties and that sort of thing and sell all kinds of decorations in the stores. So, we had a disgusting looking bat hanging over the door, an owl suspended over the kitchen table, some ceramic pumpkins with faces that held little candles, and my daughter had to carve a face in a small pumpkin that we had on hand to eat... I guess we'll be eating it today! She wanted to carve a face in my spaghetti squash and I said "no! Too hard to find a good one in France!"

Funny thing though, after the movie, the youngest is being so "cool" and asserts that the movie was only "slightly" creepy... As I was going upstairs I bent over from behind her to kiss her goodnight and she nearly jumped out of her skin! We had a good laugh!

On the subject of Cloverfield, here is a drawing of the Cloverfield entity and its scale compared to the Statue of Liberty and a person.

Ha! I outta be able to sense monsters today! For the first time in years, the Mister and I gave out candy last night cause the weather was nice. We got lawn chairs, ordered a pizza (veggie for me) and sat outside in the driveway. Unfortunately, we had seven small pieces of chocolate left. Yup, down the hatch they went.

I rationalized that I haven't started the sauna yet, so it was my last taste of goodies.

Actually, that picture isn't the monster. It was an idea circulated round the net a while. Hasbro's releasing a toy of the monster this December.
And pics of it can be seen here: http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/ProductsByBrand.htm?ID=21030&BR=863

It's still creepy, and still pretty ugly. Though I'm hoping once candida is whupped, I can watch it. :D

Yeah, I'm horrible at the coffee and sugar part of the diet too. Its getting better since Hubby is on board with me. He even threw out several bags of munchies when I read the ingredients to him, he bought them on impulse, and was horrified at how much crap was in them. Since he's quit eating pretzels, chips, and soda, he's feeling a lot better. That helps keep us both on track. :)

Yes, the Coney Island part was about a month earlier. But you've got to watch for the falling object carefully -- towards the right side of the screen, you can see a falling object plunge vertically into the ocean, and then a small splash appears. It's pretty quick!

I love movies like that best. The imagination tends to be so much worse than anything CGI can conjure up.
