Haunted house

I had this eerie dream a little over a month ago that I'd like to share. I actually wrote most of this originally just a few nights after the dream but didn't post it.

It was night and I believe a friend was there along with me and we entered what seemed to be a haunted house, although I don't remember seeing a house, just entering a place. I remember going from room to room, passing through doorways that had dark sheets for doors. It was as if we lost track of where we were, and there was this feeling of being compelled to go further and being surrounded by an ominous force. I remember a feeling of panic like I needed to get out of there, and hearing a voice saying 'go towards the light.' I then started to look around for a light and started to back track towards a light and out of the place. Later on in the light of day, I went back to the place and went to find out what was at the end of the haunted house place. It gets a bit foggy here on what it is I actually saw. It was as if there were scary Halloween like sets. I also remember commenting to someone in my dream that the place reminded me of the show Twin Peaks. The feel of the place does remind me of the eeriness of the black lodge that agent Cooper visits in the last episode and coming back to this post has renewed my interest in what the black lodge is about. Interesting also that I heard the saying 'go into the light' as that is what is heard by people who experience near death experiences.

Interested to hear of others similar dreams. Also, if anyone has insight they'd like to share, it is appreciated.

That's an interesting dream, Cleo. A couple of things comes to mind, and one of them is, of course, a part of the "Halloween" theme going on now that could be contributed to your dream, maybe on some level (since you had this dream a litter over a month ago, everyone at that time was excited to have this month - scary imagery and all that :)) It can also be related to "Twin Peaks" as mentioned in your dream, maybe not.

Secondly, from an interpretation perspective, a "haunted house" (even though you don't see the house itself, but your impression of it is important, imho) represents an "unfinished business," likely emotionally. A room represents a particular aspect of yourself, so you're going from room to room - that could be that you're trying to find something in your unconscious that needs to be looked at, and a "foggy" imagery could be something that hides something from you. The "go towards the light" aspect could be a need for illumination, insight, or clarity about that something in you. fwiw.

Ironically, I just had a dream this morning whereas I am helping the dead people moving on to the light.

Zadius Sky,

Thanks for sharing your insight :) What you described in your interpretation does strike a chord.

Notice you underlined the word need here. That stood out to me as it is like a need, this strong pull to find out what is that may be plaguing me. I started to do the redirect writing exercises three days ago and I sense that it may help lead to some insight.

Also, interesting that a haunted house represents unfinished business. And in my case, I think it is especially emotional.

Glad I posted the dream.

ohh my. that is ironic. Let's hope I'm not one of the dead, and I just don't know it  :P

Hi Cleo,

For what it is worth and I am no expert, maybe it's a dream about discovering/exploring your own unconscious which is still an "haunted house" with many dark corners and an "ominous presence" you still have to face.

What's lurking beneath the conscious mind seems quite scary sometimes but maybe the symbolic of halloween is just to remind you that it's not all that scary, it can also lead to self-discovery, when you really look at it.

My two cents.

Tigersoap,

Yeah, that is an interesting way to look at it-the unconscious is mysterious to me.

I looked up the word haunted on a web dictionary, just curious to find out what words are used to describe it. Here is how it was described: "preoccupied, as with an emotion, memory, or idea; obsessed" and also, "disturbed, distressed, worried". I feel those words fit me to a degree as I do feel troubled by something and also conflicted, as if I'm going through some sort of crisis. And in the process I have a tendency to try and solve it all on my own. Trying to work on that one.

I appreciate your input :)
