Healing Periodontitis

A Disturbance in the Force
Hi everyone. I was diagnosed with periodontitis a few years back. I got it treated and was taking better care of my oral health for a while. But several life changes led to not keeping it up, as well as the loss of dental insurance. Long story short, my mouth is falling apart, literally. I recently lost my 2 front teeth and when I found an affordable dentist, went in to find out what i could do from here. I was told I needed a full top denture and a partial bottom one. But the cost on my low income and with no insurance was staggering. So, seeing as I couldn't get this done anytime soon, my roommate and I hit the internet (and the Forum) looking for ways to heal the damage. I have found alot of helpful insights here and through general web searches and have started to change my diet and work on my oral health naturally. I found a thread here the other day which talked about using Magnesium spray orally and for the life of me (no matter what search parameters I use) can find no link to such a post. If anyone knows to what I refer, I could use the help. Thank you for any help.

Perhaps it was this thread - The Magnesium Miracle

from thread said:
A particularly strong sensation is realized when one uses magnesium chloride in the mucous membranes and it is especially useful as a mouthwash to strengthen teeth and revitalize the gums. Spraying three or four sprays full or half strength several times a day is appropriate.

I would personally supplement 300mg CoQ10, along with 2000-5000mg vitamin c with bioflavanoids ( you could use acerola cherry powder instead) daily for 1-3 months.

Similarly, you could consider vitamin K2 since it is also a quinone that has similar activity to CoQ10.

I would start with light therapy asap, near infra-red. Sure had a profound effect on my jaw issue. See the photobiomodulation thread and the infrabed thread for suggestions about what lights to get and use. I have a hand-held unit that I just put against my face and hold while reading, changing the position every five minutes or so.

Keep in mind also that periodontal issues are closely associated with autoimmune factors, so the light therapy is probably one of the first things you'll want to do.

Thanks Vulcan. I have read this thread and it wasn't here. I remember it was a post specifically about oral health, but it might not have been on the forums (although I swear it was.)

Keyhole, thank you. Maybe I should have mentioned that I had already started taking several supplements to get healthier in general. I take C 4000mg a day, as well as D3/K2. In addition, through my recent research I have added Gotu Kola and plan to purchase some CoQ10 on my next payday. I also already bought the Magnesium Chloride, which is why that particular issue was important to me. I couldn't remember what I was supposed to do with it. Hahaha!

Thank you, Laura. This is one thing that I did not think about. I have read a little bit about light therapy, but did not consider (remember) it for this problem I'm facing. I will definitely look into it!

I found a couple of articles on periodontitis and light therapy but could only access the abstracts.
__http://online.liebertpub.com/doi/abs/10.1089/pho.2011.3069 : This study used 830nm light which is NEAR infrared.

Check 'em out.

Hi bhikku! I know exactly how you feel, I've suffered with tooth issues for years, and still do!

I do think that these two products have helped.

&

https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Answer-PerioBrite-Alcohol-Free-Mouthwash/dp/B000I4C22C

But no matter how much sugar I cut down on, or what I use, I still have issues with my teeth. It's definitely related to something else in my body! I'm also hoping that the light therapy works :)

I found a few supplement suggestions for tooth decay from this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cer4AaWbqWI

Another thing I was doing for awhile was swishing colloidal silver with Lugol's iodine solution mixed in (so you can taste it, but not too strong) for about 5 minutes before going to bed. It really helped with the flares of inflammation.

I will have to see if I have access to these at my library. Thanks!

Thanks for your commiseration and sharing tips, Lilyalic! I wish you well in your journey to health.
I have most of the ingredients to make basically the same toothpaste, but am adding that rinse to my cart. Does anyone know if you can overdo it with the essential oils, as I would be using the same ones to brush and rinse if I got this mouthwash?

I don't have experience with making mouthwash, just toothpaste and powder, which didn't work out for me. But I would just go easy on the essential oils, because they're concentrated. Maybe find out some recipes for homemade mouthwash and just use the same amount or ratio that they use. Or you can just use a little bit at a time and if it seems too weak and you have no reaction to it, then add another drop and try it again.

I was introduced to Neem toothpaste about 10 years ago and since then I have recommended it to several people. My sister-in-law had bleeding gums and possibly periodontitis, and after only 2 weeks her bleeding has completely stopped and her mouth is healing.

I just watched this presentation because of my interest in both biofilms and xylitol. My interest stems from combating my candia issue, but this presentation is more about how biofilms play a major factor in gum disease and cavities, and why xylitol is effective. I would recommend this presentation for anyone interested in biofilms, or are having gum disease issues. Other useful tid-bits like how strep contributes to cavities, as well as the link between mouth infections and ear infections.
