Hearing a rapidly repeating knocking sound upon waking....

I frequently experience both sleep paralysis and lucid dreams. For the past few months or possibly longer, I have been hearing this rapidly repeating knocking sound as though there were someone knocking (banging) on the door upon waking. I've actually gotten up to check the door to see if someone was there a couple of times....It is very loud and has an echo-like quality. It also sort of sounds as though I am underwater hearing some sort of pump. There doesn't seem to be a connection between the content of the dream and hearing the sound but it does seem that sleep paralysis may be required but not necessarily having a lucid dream for this sound to be heard. Has anyone else had similar experiences?

Have you read around on the internet? I've come across many similar descriptions when looking into hypnagogia.

I don't necessarily hear this knocking sound upon waking up I'd say you'll find this interesting all the same. For some reason electricals like DVD players or TV's bang around me and I always thought it was normal that they just made noises even if they were unplugged but other people have heard it and they don't think theres anything normal about it. DVD players and TV's don't just bang for no reason. They do when I'm around though. What I've found out though is its only when I'm in an intense mindset (not necessarily involving drugs but most of the time). Usually a harsh mindset actually and I often find myself in harsh mindsets because I do some serious thinking when I have a bit of spare time.

Actually I've noticed its not just electronics its the walls sometimes too but it seems to be much louder and more noticible with electronics. It sounds like something banging on the plastic case of the electronics. Now hears something that is a bit disturbing (although I didn't find it the slightest bit scary at the time).

I've yet to come up with any explanation for these knocking sounds. Lately I've noticed one comes from the floor beside my bed and I checked whats down there and its only an extension cord with a couple of things plugged into it. Why the hells is making banging noises though. Actually a good idea would be to get a tape recorder and leave it recording when these banging sounds start happening. A video camera may even be better because I'll might be able to see the object thats making the noise to verify that nothing hit the object when it makes the sound.
