I saw quite a bit of heat lightning in the Western suburbs of Sydney last night. I can only remember seeing these in Europe during their 2003 heatwave, we seem to be going through one at the moment downunder. One flashed above my car on the motorway which had the brightness of a photographic flash at close distance.
It was rather strange, lightning with no rain and minimal thunder.
