For anyone who doesn't know or understand the bruhaha over the Higgs Boson this is the book for you. I'm not the brightest person when it comes to particle physics and parts of this book were a slow read for me, however, the author did a respectable job explaining the history and background of the Higgs field. While in no way will I say I understand all of this, I can at least grasp certain ideas better than I did before.
The amount of time, labor, and money to search for this particle is truly amazing. Is it worth it? I have no idea, but it sure does make for a fascinating read. This book generated a few questions about the whole controversy.
I enjoyed the discussion on the eightfold way, virtual particles, symmetries and symmetry breaking, and the technology and competition to search for this particle.
