Creative, but sucks :P

Try doing 978*698 or something. You'll go bonkers with all the lines and it'll take you forever to count it all up and not get confused which numbers go where. Old fashioned long-hand multiplication method is much faster, is practical for much much bigger numbers, and much less confusing, I think.

But good to know that there are people still sitting there trying to figure out new ways to multiply by hand, maybe something more clever/easier will one day be found than the standard method. Although the standard method isn't hard no matter how big the number is, it just takes longer to do it, but if you have enough time/patience, and paper, you could multiply pretty big stuff. :O
