I never expected to see a post about Ill bill and non-phixion on this forum, mainly due to some of the morally questionable and crude lyrics they sometimes use. regardless, i have been a fan of the group for a long time especially Ill bill whose lyricism is outstanding, even when compared to some of the greats like Rakim, Search and C.L. Although i havn't picked up the hour of reprisal yet, i have checked some of the tracks out on the tube and was quite impressed although they dont seem to have the same effect on me that they would have had, say two to three years ago when i was still really into hip hop.

If you are into that style of music, or were, you may have already heard of Sage francis, but if you haven't i'd say check him out because he is in my opinion very good. His music is in a similar vein but a bit more 'poetic', in a sense, and his album 'Personal Journals' is undoubtably one of my favorites.

Non Phixion was my favourite group from I first heard them in 1996 and was for me somewhat of a stepping stone into 'aliens' and conspiracy theories, which later in 2003 led me to sott, lauras work, the C's and the whole recomended reading list.
Ill Bill after Non Phixion broke up however is very pathological along with his blood brother Necro (the name kinda says it all). Sure, he got tracks like "Society is Brainwashed", but most of the time he raps about being psychopathic and I don't give his music the light of day anymore. BTW, his brother Necro has his own label that Ill Bill has released a bunch of stuff on and is named "Psycho+logical" where his slogan is 'cuz it's logical to be a psycho'. That should say a bit...

These types of hip hop groups is also what got me originally into the type of material covered on this forum. So it was a stepping stone for me also. I agree that it is pathological and I because of this I only listen to hip hop very rarely. But I do think that these artists are trying to get the information out there the way that they can and I think a lot of the underground artists are well meaning, if co-opted. Also I think it is one of the aims of hip hop to speak about the darker aspects of humanity and bring it to consciousness. I do not think that Ill Bill and his brother are satanic, actually they claim to be jewish, I think that they are rapping about it to increase awareness of these topics. But again I don't agree with everything they say and a lot of it may be pathological but it may be a stepping stone to awakening for some people.

I think that's the problem, it's hard for me to take everything they say seriously if in one song you point out society flaws but at the same time sing about the gangsta lifestyle that's supposed to be so cool.
That defeats the purpose of trying to bring awareness to the people.
It's only human to get crushed into this psychopathic mold and think that is working fine.
If you are a knee deep in environments that foster such attitudes it is almost impossible not to become even more pathological yourself (if you are not a psychopath already), especially as everything (including drugs, social pressure, dumbing down....) will help you keep going into this downward spiral osit.

I don't think hip-hop is all bad per se but it has so much power to reach people that it had to be co-opted, like so many other genres anyway.

I agree with you Tigersoap. Its sad to see because I love the art form so much but it has become so corrupted into mainly bragging, attacking others and glorifying a pathological culture.

Yeah I used to listen to that album. Vinnie Paz has said that it was a concept album and he doesn't make albums like that anymore. It seemed to me like he just read some "conspiracy" and "new age" stuff and made some hardcore rap about it.

Also an on and off member of Jedi Mind Tricks, Jus Allah, is a five percenter. I do think their producer Stoupe is very talented.

Personally I don't like Jedi Mind Tricks anymore because I think the content is too violent and pathological. Check out the song with Ill Bill below for a good example of what I mean.

Can you expand on what you mean here? When you say the 3 times you supported NP do you mean you met these people? What happened that made you change your opinion of Ill Bill?

Yes, I've met them and done a couple of shows with them on their european tour before the group broke up.
Bill, well it was a lot of things, breaking my friends arm for one, but I guess the whole attitude really.
But the other guys are real cool people, including Vinnie Paz.
