I'm convinced that Psychopaths listen to this song

I'm in possession of a smoking gun

And I wanna hurt you just for fun

It's nothing you've said, it's nothing you've done

I wanna hurt you just for fun...

And I... could crucify myself

That last line reminds me of al gore's/ bill clinton's / steve jobs dietary changes to veganism/vegetarianism. Hmm.

I am afraid that more people as we might suppose listen to this sort of song with a complete indifference or even smile. It gives me a gut feeling that there are actually much more psychopaths than supposedly few per cent of the population. :(

I think it's ponerology in action. Pathological people vectoring them into thinking like them like it's okay to hurt people and manipulate them because it feed of energy and it is fun, like it is something trivial, and everybody do it to make self feel good on others.

It remind me of what the c's said about psychic hygiene, where you have to recognize the things those are bad, people don't even think those type of song are bad, because they don't have awareness of evil, they don't even think good or evil exist so they are hypnotize by the appealing song/beat and don't question the evil(sts) message.

I agree it does feel like ponerology in action. Now-a-days whenever I come across a song such as this, I am keen to realize what the actual words are saying. It get's to the point where I can't even enjoy the melody or other examples of creativity that has been imbued into the music because it has be ruined (in my opinion) by lyrics that are unappealing.

This is exactly why I've kind of moved toward instrumentals or music with very little vocals in recent times.

I agree. But I think that with what we have to be especially careful is with successful "artists." That is, in general, any group or soloist that belongs to a big corporation. They can programming garbage either through lyrics or subliminal messages or both.

If you listen to the original.. you'll realize you are completely wrong as the song is about a victim of what could be a sociopath... check your facts :D

The unfortunate thing is that once these artists have been bound by contract to these big corporations they have essentially "signed their soul to the devil" (which is something a lot of music artists actually say in their songs) and are obliged to spread whatever their controllers want them to. Their music has such a powerful influence on the young minds of society - promoting ideas like no rules, promiscuous sexual behaviour, violence, drugs, crime, the worship of the material world etc. Its perfect ponerology! I think it is even problematical to listen to this stuff while attempting to "pick it apart" because it seems to have a subliminal effect that completely bypasses conscious awareness. I sometimes think I can analyse the lyrics of this type of song while maintaining a psychic barrier, and the find myself mechanically singing the words later that day

The only way to rid oneself of its horrid influence is to remove oneself from it completely!

An excellent example of a band which as co-opted was The Black Eyed Peas. They used to be a hip-hop group who rapped about political issues and spiritual concepts, however when they became popular this changed :(

Ok.

"I write these songs that can appear to be love songs, and seem all nice and sweet," Indiana, whose debut album "No Romeo" will be released overseas in September, tells Billboard. "But then you peel away that first layer and chip away at that exterior, and they're all dark and a little bit twisted, and a bit sinister … I'm quite an odd person anyway, but I think if I didn't write these songs, I'd probably be doing horrible stuff. I write these songs to save other people from things I might do."

That's an interesting comment she gave while doing an interview related to her album ( and the solo dancing track ) . Now I could have missed the mark on interpretation but after looking up the original lyrics to smoking gun it still didn't feel any less pathological. But I am not sure I can grasp too much context just from reading the lyrics a few times. All I know is that the 'feel' of what's being said seems pathological to me.

Irregardless of who is saying it, victim or not.

Song Lyrics said:
My lips are soft from kissing
If I start then you might listen
It's protection from the words that might escape
I take comfort from your silence
Conversation leaves me frightened
I'm scared I'll give myself away
And I... could crucify myself
Sometimes I want to kiss and tell

I'm compelled to make confession
Of these little indiscretions
I feel the need to spit it out
It's a delicious feeling
This truth I am concealing
The power I've got to cut you down
And I... could crucify myself
Sometimes I want to kiss and tell

I'm in possession of a smoking gun
And I wanna hurt you just for fun
It's nothing you've said, it's nothing you've done
I wanna hurt you just for fun

{snip}

This is what goes through my mind while reading the first stanza. I could be totally off so if anyone else would like to chime in be my guest.

My Lips are soft from kissing
I have been enjoying this situation very much so.

If I start then you might listen
Need to be careful about saying too much or you may catch on to what is going on

Conversation leaves me frightened
I'm scared I'll give myself away
And I... could crucify myself
An attempt at avoiding self-incrimination as much as possible. Or otherwise known as the effort necessary to maintain their mask of sanity.

Sometimes I want to kiss and tell
Annnd psychopaths can get off on doing something sinister and then revel in telling people exactly what and how they did it.

Those were my first impressions, but it may be better if others gave their own impressions as well. I may have read too far into the song at this point.

p.s. Also I see that you are new here jordzz2015. Could you introduce yourself and/or tell us a little bit about how you found the forum in the Newbies Thread. :welcome:

Yeah, I am just not seeing it. The only time that she alludes to anything other than her own psychopathic tendencies is after the chorus when background singers are singing, "You're in my head." That could be interpreted in a few ways I can think of, but not that she has been wounded by a sociopath... In the chorus she even states that "It's nothing you've said, it's nothing you've done, I wanna hurt you just for fun". Couple this with the Billboard interview, and I think we have an answer.

This may be a narrative you are telling yourself so that you can listen to this type of music - ie a story we tell ourselves in order to continue doing what we are doing, even if it is not a healthy habit. Or so I think.

I've tried to listen to this song,to be honest after a couple of seconds shut it off,it's sad the mainstream music nowadays has degraded considerably,in fact i don't listen anymore music with lyrics, or in general popular mainstream music ,i don't like it ,there are still many good musicians but it seems nowadays the BIG entertainment industry encourages and makes very popular those singers that promote a selfish, materialistic and some kind of pathological behaviour to the audience.

Yeah. To me this is not music or art or anything creative. It's just noise, screeching and screaming, and it's the same garbage over and over. At least the creator of this mindless drool could have had a chorus to the "song," perhaps the sound of a toilet flushing or someone banging relentlessly on the side of metal shed.

Well, to be fair, this was a remixed version of the original song (ie, someone named 'hucci' added some electronic noise and sampled a small portion of the song in order to make a dance beat). The original song does have a chorus, and IMO is kinda catchy. Which, I suppose is the real issue, that the singer/songwriter can create a pretty and listenable song that has such a deviant message. She has a nice voice too, and so people are going to listen and perhaps assimilate the message of hate without even realizing it. Scary stuff.

Yeah! I agree! Total garbage, why bother to listen?
My personal opinion, I like to listen classical music.
