Information About Alex Kahan, Fourth Way teacher, NYC

Padawan Learner
I have a question I hope someone can help answer, or provide insight. Does anyone know of a Fourth Way teacher named Alex Kahan? He's teaching in NYC, and is claimed to be the successor of Jeanne De Salzmann. He is in his late 70's. This is his book: http://www.amazon.com/The-Couples-Handbook-Alex-Kahan/dp/0595399983

Does anyone know anything about this teacher? I am very interested to hear your thoughts, or any input you have heard from reliable sources.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Gregory,

Welcome to the forum! It is customary for all newbies to make a brief introduction of themselves and tell a little bit about how they made their way here. :)

Perhaps someone here in the NY area may have more info for you about Alex Kahan.

Hello Gregory,

Some questions I would ask is if Alex Kahan is part of the Gurdjieff Foundation, who is making this claim that he is the successor of Jeanne de Salzmann, and in what way 'successor'?

If you are looking for an orthodox, nuts-and-bolts, tried-and-true entry into the Gurdjieff teaching, then the Gurdjieff Foundation is your best bet. (A quick google will give you plenty of contact information.) Mme de Salzmann founded and led the Gurdjieff Foundation until her death, and her son Dr. Michel de Salzmann succeeded her until his death. The last I heard, Frank Sinclair is head of the GF, but I am not completely current, having been out of the loop for awhile. Still though I have never heard of Alex Kahan, although I was never part of the NYC GF, just have been on the periphery, and picking up info here and there from online contacts.

I hope this helps.

Deal Mrs. Peel. Thanks

Sorry. I'm not very good with these things. I'm not sure what you would like me to do. I have read the Newbies page but don't see where I am supposed to introduce myself. I am happy to if you can help.

I am a fan of Laura's work and have been in touch with her directly several times over the past 18 months. I have written articles for SOTT. I was directed to this site by Bernhard Guenther, a friend and fellow blogger/SOTT writer (http://veilofreality.com/) with whom I exchange info and work frequently. My blog is: http://supremeboundlessway.com/

I'm happy to post this elsewhere if you can tell me where. The link you provided doesn't seem to be the right place, but that may be my ineptitude

Cheers

Dear lake_george,

Thanks so much for the info. This helps. I'll look into it via this avenue.

Cheers.

Mrs. Peel,

I think I figured it out ;D

Sorry. I'm new to forums. I never found one before that I felt was worth my time, personally. But this one I am very interested in. Bare with me!

Oops... that's "BEAR with me"... HA!

Maybe I'll learn how to edit my replies too. I might get kicked out of here for inappropriate proposals!! :-[

You will be able to edit your replies once you have 50 posts. Welcome, GregoryJ!

So I have discovered. "1984" just informed me of this as well. Thanks.

Yea, I'm getting better at this already!

I worked with Alex in the city for over 5 years. I now work with a teacher from the NY Foundation as do several other people who use to work with Alex.

What would you like to know? Ultimately I think he is harmless, however I think your time and efforts are better spent elsewhere.

Hello and thanks for the welcome, but no thanks on the newbie blah blah. Although there seems to be lots of *interesting* forums here, I only joined to help this one gent and his question about this one *teacher*. I certainly hope that most people here have a Real Group to attend and that there isn't any real *work advice* being slung around. If there is, I highly doubt Mr. G would have approved. Intellectualizing about the work has its unmistakable draw, but is that what we really need more of?

This forum is not a chat forum; it was set up by its founders for a very specific purpose which is outlined for anyone who joins the forum; it can be found here .. We treat the forum as a house. In real life, it is not considered polite to enter someone's house and disregard the norms followed by the members inhabiting the house.

Your words indicate that you believe you are capable of discerning what "Real Work" is and how it proceeds in a "Real Group". Common sense dictates that to make such a determination in any area of life - leave aside the Work - one would need to observe what is going on for some time.

If you decide to stick around, please familiarize yourself with the forum guidelines linked above. If you find yourself disagreeing with the basic tenets of the forum, then it is only reasonable to part ways.

This is a great example of what sort of fruit Alex Kahan produces - so thank you for the demonstration, harneloot. A machine pretending to be a "man" so clearly demonstrated in only 4 posts.
