Insterested in meditation, where should I start?

A Disturbance in the Force
Hi everybody,
I've recently become really attracted to the idea of starting meditation. I know it might not be relevant, but maybe some infos on my can help you advice me better: I'm vegan, and I try to keep myself as healthy as possible, I recently started to workout everyday around 6am, before beginning my normal days. I find it "healing" in a sense, it has been great. And I'm into martial arts, tai chi, shaolin kong fu etc.
Besides, I'm a Chemistry/Maths student, 27, male. :halo:

I think I'm seriously looking for "something" different, a way to feel things deeper, or a way that could prove me that "something else" exists. I'm not religious at all.
But I do believe in higher dimensions, either within ourselves or hidden to our eyes in this world. And I want to explore a way to "feel" them, I guess I want some kind of proof.
I also want to achieve more control on myself and my actions, I guess more focus on my studies, more motivation in general.. maybe meditation could help as well? :)

So, my idea of meditation is possibly disconnected from any religious point of view. And also I don't want to do it just for the sake of, just for relax..
I'm really interested to achieve deep states of meditation or self hypnosis, something strong and powerful. I know it's a path and it'll take years to master,
but I'm ready to work on it.

I know there are many different styles, techniques, doctrines.. So I don't know what I should look for. :(
I can buy some specific book or watch videos, tutorial, whatever it would help to introduce me to this realm.

Thank you all guys, and keep up the good work you're all doing in this forum! :)

Welcome to the forum, whoami.

Have you checked out our Éiriú Eolas Program with great benefits? The thread with many of our members' profound experiences with this program is here: https://cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php/topic,12837.0.html

You can also check out our Diet and Health section: https://cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php/board,32.0.html - you will see that being a vegan may not be as healthy as you'd think.

Seeing that this is your first post on the forum, feel free to post a brief intro about yourself in the Newbies section, telling us how you found this forum, how long you've been reading it and/or the SOTT page, etc. You can take a look at other posts there and see how it was done.

:)

Thanks for the links Zadius.
However, do you have any general advice for how to approach meditation? I mean, this Eiriu Eolas seems something pretty specific to me.
I would like to have a big picture, and then focus on what I consider the kind of meditation that would suit me..

My general advice would be: try EE and find out if it suits you. You can go to local buddhist or christian (or other) meditation place and try if that suits you. Then you will have somewhat bigger picture.

Thanks Osher. I was trying to have a look at it, and the best reference seems to be the .org website, namely www.energyenhancement.org.
However that site is fucked up pretty badly. It's a single page 1km long scroll down infinite nonsense. There's no way anyone could grasp something
useful from that. Is this EE something "famous" within people that practice meditation? Or is it just another thing like that Eiriu Eolas?
It seems to me that there only people trying to sell me their stuff.. I don't mean you guys, but those websites..
Isn't there a pure, ancient, effective and well know form of meditation that doesn't have to be bought on the internet?
I'd rather watch some videos on youtube or buy a book, but those websites look like telemarketing, trying to sell stuff and nothing more.. :/

Oh and btw, as I said in my first post, I would try to stay away from any religious form of meditation that involves jesus, buddha or similar..
I'm just looking for some simple, free, independent way to meditate. :)

The "EE" that we referred to here is Éiriú Eolas. You can click on the link in my previous post and it's free and practical (http://eiriu-eolas.org/online-version/).

Ok, thanks again Zadius. :)
So, just wondering, where does this EE falls within the big picture? I mean, what kind of meditations are out there that are worth to mention for general knowledge?
And what kinds should I certainly avoid if I happen to read about them online or in books? (I mean, like "scam" meditation techniques or similar)

Hello whoami, maybe watch the intro video Zadius provided which gives you many details regarding EE. One of the main differences in the EE meditation is, that it is a meditation with a seed, instead of emptying the mind as many other meditations do you concentrate on the prayer of the soul (pots). Though this prayer is not religious and you can change the phrase "divine cosmic mind" to something that suits you most, but is also expalined in the introduction video from Laura. The program of EE is not only about the meditation, but the other parts as well that prepare you for the meditation so to speak, though the prayer is with one of the main important ones of the program.

Hi whoami,
Here is a general discussion thread on meditation in this forum.
Role of Meditation in the Work .

If you do a search with the keyword "meditation", then you can find other threads discussing the topic here in this forum.

In general, meditation is a vast topic. Different people meditate for different purposes - to feel calm and peaceful, to reduce stress, to control the mind, to increase self-knowledge, to establish connection with the spiritual realm etc etc. In addition to learning about meditation, it may be useful to ask yourself why you wish to meditate and what benefits you expect from this activity.

And welcome to the forum.
