Investigating Ancient Teeth - sugary diets, immune system and tooth health

The Living Force
Interesting 10 minute doc on how farming destroyed our gut and mouth biome; apparently it became very diverse and lead to mouth ulcers, holes in teeth, increased plaque (that is still stuck there and can be extracted). They compared hundreds of skulls to come to these conclusions. Also how caesarians (me!) lead to increased problems in the gut. And how breast milk is the 'broth' that sets you and your immune system up for life. How not receiving this can lead depression due to gut dysbiosis; antibiotics lead to the destruction of bioflora; how probiotics help with this; how vegetables were the problem. They don't say go keto ;) Instead they suggest a toothpaste with bioflora in...

For me this is very interesting as we have periodontal disease in the family. Due to sugar/carbohydrate consumption!

Catalyst: Ancient Teeth - By investigating evidence from ancient teeth, we find out about how the human diet and health conditions have changed over time.

Our diets have changed tremendously as humans have developed and progressed over time, from the meat-heavy diets from our hunter-gatherer days, to the advent of agriculture about 10,000 years ago and the high sugar content of today’s fast, convenient food. Our changing diet has had a variety of effects on our health, not least on our ‘microbiome’; diversity in the bacteria living inside us has decreased dramatically, with severe knock-on effects on our immune systems. Dr Graham Phillips presents evidence from our ancestors’ teeth, which shows just how much our diets and resultant bacterial communities inside our bodies have changed over time.

Another relatively short (30mins) documentary from Australia focusing on the damaging effects of sugar in the diet. It seems to be a follow on, or at least accompanying doc to the last one posted.

What's interesting in this is that actually, it veers towards the Ketogenic diet in that carbs of all stripes are implicated as sugar and the solution proposed is fat in the diet. They discuss the wrong advice we've received from institutions and how the health of society began to decline upon following these guidelines.

They say how it can't be that people have suddenly become so lazy that it must be related to diet.

I really enjoyed watching it because it's another family friendly doc made by a 'respectable' outlet and could be easily shared.

ps. i'm glad you two liked the last one! :)

Today’s generation of eaters are the fattest the world has ever seen; there are now more obese people on the planet than undernourished. Is it really as simple as humans suddenly consuming much more fat than in the past? While the amount of fat we eat has stayed largely stable over the past few decades, scientists like Prof Michael Cowley and Prof Robert Lustig point out that sugar and processed carbohydrates are the main culprits for our recent obesity. Dr Maryanne Demasi investigates how our misguided eating habits have led us to become the fattest generation of humans in history.
