Iranian speedboats harass US navy vessels in Gulf: Pentagon

So I'm not sure where my boss got it from, but I come back from lunch and she asks, "So did ya hear how we came close to war with Iran this morning?" I looked at her a little perplexed and immediately hit up Cnn.com (my source for all things mainstream) and low and behold their front page:

_http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/01/07/iran.us.navy/index.html said:
Iranian boats 'provoked' U.S. Navy, officials say
The U.S. military says it was a "significant" confrontation involving five Iranian Revolutionary Guard boats that "harassed and provoked" three U.S. naval ships in international waters over the weekend. But the Iranian government countered today that the incident was "something normal" and had been resolved.
What I noticed is that the story was carried on sott, here:
AFP said:
Iranian speedboats harass US navy vessels in Gulf: Pentagon

WASHINGTON - Five Iranian speedboats harassed three US navy ships as they transited the strategic Strait of Hormuz over the weekend, radioing a threat to blow them up, a Pentagon official said Monday.

What I immediately thought of was Donald's economic commentary which I read this morning. In it, he quotes another article in which the author lets us know that Iran is off the table, eventhough for a good while it definitely seemed like Iran was the next Iraq. It's creepy, we have these independent members of the blogosphere (i love that word) calling the PTB on their pathetic and translucent agenda and yet we have this incident today which serves solely to remind American's that 'Iran is still an issue'. At least, that's how I read it.

AFP also was a bit more specific then CNN in describing the location. CNN says 'International Waters' while AFP mentions the Strait of Hormuz by name. While I'm certain that strait is International waters it's also along the coast of Iran. Edit: Here's a picture

What's also 'gets me' is that this is all out of the mouth of the pentagon which was then broadcasted by CNN.... it's like so obvious on one hand and yet so hidden on the other. Talk about two realities...

This was one step away from a "Gulf of Tonkin", or maybe just a practice run so that when they fake it for real the public will swallow it.

The lessons of history are falling by the wayside! Then again, that was covered-up history.

The Iranians responded:

Iran 'did not harass US warships'

An Iranian official has dismissed Washington's claims that IRGC speedboats harassed three US navy warships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US vessels approached the Iranian boats in the Persian Gulf on Sunday, warning they were in the red zone, the official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Press TV on Monday.

He added that the Iranians had asked the warships to identify themselves, as such radio communications are usual between vessels in the Persian Gulf.

Although the Pentagon claimed that US sailors were given orders to open fire on the Iranian boats, the official confirmed no hostile encounter took place.

No doubt just the first of a series of "provocations" that the U.S. will claim to have suffered, and cite as justification to use military force against Iran.

I was truely disgusted when I first heard this piece of news. THREE American WARships (and we know how big they normally are...) were too close to the Iranian coast yet again, and yet this incident is being portrayed as if the Americans were in the right, even being harassed by the Iranians, who clearly in the eyes of the international press don't have the right to protect their country any longer.

Indeed. After reading the following link which is actually supposed to be for new readers, it becomes very obvious how "the lessons of history are falling by the wayside!" Then again, even though it is business as usual for the PTB, there is still the possibility that the lessons of history might be learned this time around and people will not fall for the "provocations" propagated by the mainstream media. One can hope.
