Is it possible to have cookies for those who want to follow up?

One of the biggest problems I have with the forum is that
I have no ability to catch up to new postings for which I
have not already read? What I mean is, that if I was away,
say for a day, few days, a week - that there would be new
posting since then? I find that if I were to say, log in after
a few days, the forum would highlight new postings but after
reading one of the new postings and coming back to catch
up on the other new postings, I would instantly lose the
list of highlighted new postings! gah!

Can someone tell me how I can get these new postings
back in highlighted form so that I can continue to catch
up?

I hope I made myself clear?

Is there a way to cookie the visit so that it keeps track
of the read/not-read new postings?

You can subscribe to a topic (see link bottom left under thread), which means that the forum will email you new postings in the thread you selected to follow.
Those new postings would show up as unread emails in your inbox.
It is not quite what you're looking for, but may be helpful.
