The Living Force
Today I finally got to view one interview in a series I subscribe to – This Week In Start-ups ( a programme for entrepreneurs) with Jason Calacanis.

Here is the interview/discussion:

He was interviewing:
Jerry Colonna - Independent Life/Business Coach & Former VC

I feel Jerry would be a great person to have on our Sott Radio show, especially because of his dealings with People – and - Corporations (psychopaths)

Well I found this an unusually open and honest departure from the usual mutual brushing of egos they have sometimes. But more importantly a refreshing alternative to most such info on the web. Why?
Jerry was hitting on things that we cover ourselves eg about chasing our own demons but with the slightly different slant – from his CEO /VC experience.

A succinct look at how being focused on one area of our life we/they omit the inner conscious need for spiritual development. The Rise, the Fall (being the emptiness inside) and the Predator forever waiting to be found out as a fraud – unmasked.
I fully recommend a viewing – though do ignore their take on 9/11 but the message is still the same.
I don’t wish to spoil it so will just list some snippets:
• He sold Geo Cities for 3.6 billion, became suicidal, PTSD
• Existential Crisis
• Blending sense of ‘self’ with work- What is the cost?
• Guilt – feelings of undeserving/ fear of loss
• The randomness of luck/uncertainty
• The fundamental belief in Cleverness and the primacy of our intellectual capacity
• Sometimes we cannot ‘fix’ things or have the ‘answers’
• Willing things into existence (business)
• Believing your own BS (confirmation bias)
• Imposter Syndrome (I will get found out)
• Ben Saunder’s FEAR – Polar Explorer whodid what noone else had done.
• ‘Heavy is the head that wears the crown’
• VC’s are looking for ‘neurotics’
• Every positive statement can actually mean the opposite internally, in reality
• How do you create a sense of ‘self’ that is resilient enough to the psychopathology of every day life?
• Warren Dennis – ‘Defining Leaders who Define Reality’
• Finding Equanimity rather than happiness
• It is very hard to give up something that is an extention of your own personality
• ‘People that have shared experiences find each other’
• Depression is what happens when we don’t know what to do with the preceding ‘feelings’ ( a kind of violence to the self - unresolved feelings)

He also has this interesting blog:

‘…. an idea I’d been marinating on with a few folks: a retreat, an extended workshop, to help folks in the struggle of becoming a CEO. The idea was to host a small group of selected people coming together to focus on the pragmatic aspects of the job while exploring the body and soul techniques available to enhance their resiliency.

To get even more prosaic: I want to facilitate a group of first-time CEOs becoming startup warriors.

(In various spiritual traditions, the notion of warrior refers to the ability to face life as it is–head on with dignity and equanimity.)
That casual reference resulted in hundreds of emails. We hit a nerve.

The theme of the CEO Boot Camp we’ve designed is “Reboot your leadership; reboot your life.” The plan is to spend three and half days together exploring, learning, challenging each other. “It’ll be a success,” I told a friend, “if, at the end, what emerges is a tight-knit group of peers supporting each other with humor, skill, and courage.”
