Just got rear ended!

The Force is Strong With This One
Me and my girlfriend just finished grocery shopping, we're waiting at a light i notice in my review mirror that the guy behind me is still not stopping and BAM!!

It shocked me, i let the light pass and i get out, we decide to pull over somewhere near. Exchange info and go off.

I'm a bit sore and jostled.

The real thing is that i (this may sound a bit crazy..) feel like i put energy towards this or "dreamed" it in. I am a full time unemployed student and my lady just go fired so, finances have been at the for front of my mind a good bit more. So my mind thought of a quick and easy way to get money. Guess what it came up with!!!

That's right, a collision settlement.
I did immediately dismiss it from my mind/intent but, i recall times where my mind would wander to rehearsing the scenario of talking to the person who hit my car.

Where should i go from here? Financially and spiritually/growth(ly).

Or am i just blaming myself as my lady suggests?

Did the police respond to the accident? Their report on the incident is crucial to any litigation. Plus it makes sure the other person is giving you their correct info.

i believe i got the correct info unless he had a fake id and proof of insurance.

FWIW, such a situation is allowable and possible in this universe, OSIT, but it would be too dangerous for me to play with though. It could also simply have served as a distraction (dissociation) to keep you from paying enough attention far enough ahead to have a plan for such a possibility (especially with a passenger on-board). Not that I'm suggesting it's your fault. Accidents happen, obviously.

Why did you and the other driver NOT want the police involved? How will you explain that to your insurance company or lawyer, and what will you do if the insurance company decides that each driver will pay for their own repairs? Does that even matter?

In my country the settlement or insurance money (company of the guilty part) usually only covers the cost to repair the damage. I don't know how it's in where you live, but unless you are physically injured (I hope you're not!) there's no way to make any 'profit'. I've been through a couple of collisions and my experience is that some people (when being the guilty part) want to throw cash at you so that their bonuses at the insurance company don't get affected. This would require that neither part report the incident anywhere. The problem is that, as we all know, dishonest people can fool you this way.

One of the few useful things my dad taught me were: "Always stay vigilant while driving, always assume that the other drivers can make mistakes at any time." and "ALWAYS call the police if you're involved in a car accident"

You've probably been asked this earlier, but have you read the Wave series? I think reading it would answer some of your questions.

Hey Myth,

Sorry to hear this happened to you.

Like Bud, I also wonder why you didn't involve the police. You say you feel sore, that means the accident may have effected you physically. How serious was it? Did you go to the doctor? If you got jolted, you may have gotten whip lash (I hope not).

My mom got into a car accident just like yours, and didn't think there was anything too wrong with her because she only felt a little sore. About three days later, she couldn't get out of bed because she had very bad back pain as the result of the accident. The insurance covered her costs because the fault was completely with the other driver. They did involve the cops, so there was a police report and everything.

Hmm, I think it's your right to claim any damage costs this person caused to you (car & health). But I wouldn't consider it a serendipity if that's what you mean.
