My mother read this to me and my sister, when we were kids, and we absolutely loved it.
I was thinking about mentioning it (apart from that it's really good as I remember it) because in western culture today, we don't have many stories where the hero is a Muslim, and I think that kids that have identified deeply with a Muslim boy for how ever many hours it takes to hear the story, will be less likely to buy into the seeing Muslims as "the other" later.
A side effect might be that the children fall completely in love with Arabian horses, and forever after deeply desire a friendship with one :)
here is a summary for the interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_of_the_Wind
