Lance Armstrong manipulated the media, the teammates, the press. He threatened colleagues and pulled all the doping swamp. The system is covered by the UCI.

ADMIN NOTE: Changed title. We do not know that Lance Armstrong is a psychopath.

He maybe was also just a puppet in the sports business. What I'm personally missing are more facts, but it is eventually the writing style of the article. And it looks like the article consists of more than one article originally written by the guardian.co.uk (here are two I found):

But living with that lie of doping over such a long period of time and still faking a nice guy doesn't look good. And the accusations lasted a very long time too and should bother someone with a conscious, unless this person is totally ponerized or became it over the time not to speak up.

Have not really followed Lance Armstrong’s fall from Grace, yet caught this interview tonight that was telling:

See this part @ > 24:20 minutes

This starts by describing when Betsy Andreu & her husband Frankie, who was Lance’s cycling mate and both were good friends (Lance later said he barely knew them), and then became ostracized. After this, Betsy especially paid a high price for her truth amongst all the lies. Her husband seems to have been trying to suppress her truth too (older video clip from 2006 in this interview), yet it came out regardless. She became persona non grata by the cycling and cancer community, including the press and even her friends and family. Listening to her about Lance brought home, in a few words, what is well known in psychopathological studies discussed here; you can decide:

Betsy says during this interview:

Betsy said:
He is a chameleon, if he wants to use you, if he needs something from you, he will be charming. He will charm the heck out of you. If he wants you to shut up, if he wants to send a message, he will be threatening and intimidating and we’ve seen both ends.

Betsy discusses when she was in Lance’s hospital room during his cancer treatment (at the beginning). She was there with the doctors when they asked him about chemicals in his body that they needed to know about for treatment during his cancer. Lance then told the doctors right then and there what he had in his system and he lists it all off.

There is much more in the interview including close observations of his lies.

Here also is an article (probable of many) that says essentially the same things.

Betsy Andreu refused to be cowed even when Armstrong, who she calls a 'tyrant' of the sport, used his power to attempt to destroy the career of her husband and his former teammate Frankie Andreu, as revenge for her defiance.

Speaking exclusively to the Mail On Sunday, Andreu reveals the climate of fear and bullying in Armstrong's inner circle, experiencing first-hand the lengths he would go to simply to protect his lies - and he even questions the motives behind his charitable work.

'The real Lance Armstrong is a bull*******,' said Andreu.

'He was nice to me at first. But then I wouldn't stay quiet, and that was a problem. We knew Lance was a bully and the more money and power he got, the worse it became. He insulated himself and surrounded himself with "yes" people.

'When Frankie and I spoke up, he rounded on us quickly. It was stunning - not that he did it, but that it was to one of his closest friends. I thought, "Oh my gosh, who's going to be next?" and it was his wife.'

He's like Bernie Madoff, who gave millions to leukaemia charities and his family was hit heavily by cancer,' she said
