Watched this the other day, and I would be my pick of the week. Didn't have much expectations but certainly surprised me in a good way.

The story is around a hypothetical medieval multi-ethnic feudal town with nobles, knights and a king, which suffers the pathological maneuvers of the king's aide. The psychopath gets rid of the only noble man that can see through his facade dishonoring his state, his knights and his family. The script then starts to describe what happens with the noble man's knights.

Director is japanese and it is obvious the references to valor, honor and duty found in the japanese culture and cinema. So basically what he did here was to tell a japanese-like story with a multinational cast on a medieval setting.

Storyline was inpiring, well paced, the performances were good as well.

hey navigator,

I watched this the other night and it was quite a good film. The production value was rad, action was very well done like you said and dealt with the themes of psychopathic rule. Im a big fan of Clive Owen and he was rad as Raiden.

Spoilers

I also enjoyed the 2nd act as odd as it was as the reveal at the end was very well done and I thought was seeded appropriately with the chess game.

I also really liked the multinational cast. Was nice for a change and definitely agree with the style of the japanese director and the nod to the genre. Overall a very good film!!

Thanks for the reviews, i like medieval style movies, with themes of honour, and valour - will definitely check this movie out :)

The plot sounds like an adaptation of the Japanese story of the 47 Ronin, which not long ago was made into a fantasy movie featuring monsters and Keanu Reeves. That wasn't very good, but I'd like to watch the one you recommend! :ninja:
