Latin American Music

Hello friends, if anyone is interested, I leave this topic for the purpose of posting bands or artists from Latin America, that in general, are a little unknown, however, there are interesting things.

I put this first band called "Los Jaivas", formed in Viña del Mar city, Chile, in 1963, and they are still active, despite two major deaths they have had in 1988 (drummer) and 2003 (lead singer). Los Jaivas proposal, in general, has been to mix folk and ethnic sounds from Chile and various places of Latin America with "rock music", or in something like "progressive-rock-andino group".

This song is called "La Poderosa Muerte" (The Powerful Death), which is from an album called "Alturas de Macchu Picchu" (Heights of Macchu Picchu), and its based on Pablo Neruda poems.

Thanks for sharing IronFloyd!

I used to love this album by Los Jaivas. My favourite is "Sube a nacer conmigo hermano" (Rise to be born with me brother) (Don't know if that would be the best translation :P)

I've found this video with English subtitles, but it also has another song before that one and some history of Pablo Neruda.

Some time ago, I had the beautiful opportunity to go to Macchupichu and listen to this music right up there

Oh thanks to you Yas, great that you knew them, I didn't think that. Great songs, the previous "Antigua America" (Ancient America), and "Sube a nacer conmigo hermano" that was played by the band in the singer and guitarist farewell; Eduardo "Gato" (Cat) Alquinta who died in 2003, and one curious thing is that one of his sons who came from France to "replace him" (Eloy Alquinta) and who singing in this video (the guy with red shirt); passed away the following year, a day 15, like his father, and like the drummer Gabriel Parra too, in 1988 (also representing the devil in "La poderosa Muerte" video), that's the same number which the band was born (August 15, 1963). The girl on the drums is Gabriel daughter, Juanita Parra, Los Jaivas drummer since 1991.

Just today is the 50 anniversary of the Violeta Parra death, so I put this in the voice of her sister, and in the second part, the same song in something like mix of "Jazz" and "foxtrot" version, made by her grandson Angel Parra, that he was part of a band called "Los Tres".
