Well the winding road pic is from Japan, I've seen that one before:

The rest of them may or may not be from South Dakota either:

It looks like it's a variation of a mass email that's been going around, with questionable authenticity. Either way, it's a sobering sight, and no doubt the ice age will make this look tame in comparison.

Next time I received an email from that friend, I would do a more thorough search. :(

But as you said, it is just a small glimpse of the next ice age.

I was thinking the same thing! My only idea is that the road had to start somewhere where snow was consistently kept away, like a town. So they just proceeded at a slow pace from that clear area. Or just running snowplows non-stop while the snow is falling and never letting it build up on the road in the first place?
 
The last picture as well as the one showing the snow blowing vehicle were taken in Oswego, NY. I believe within the last 5 to maybe 8 years? I saved those from a website I visited back around that time. Still have them because they are so amazing to look at.
