Library Software

Today I want to share what I found when I decided to catalog my library.
The software I found is called: BookCAT.
What impressed me most is the ability to just enter the ISBN number of
the book and the software will look up the data via the web and enter it
automatically!
To further speedup the process you can also use a handheld barcode scanner
to enter from the barcode on the book. The scanner needs to output
characters, i.e. ASCII code.
The price of the software is very reasonable considering all the features
and flexibility. ca. $50.00 US.
When completed the entire database can be published in PDF format.
I hope this may be of interest to bibliophiles everywhere.

Thanks for sharing, Leo.

I have been using BiblioteQ (a software created for professional libraries management) as was recommended to me during my library class. It's basically free and I am using it for my own personal library. It does similar thing as downloading the information automatically via Library of Congress database (however, only Laura's books were not in the database, so I would input the information manually).

Re: Library Software: I use Librarything

Hi, this might be a useful tool for bookworms and library-rats: librarything.com

Personally i use librarything.nl because flemish is my mother tongue, but it takes any book from any language and the websites of each country all connect so it doesn't matter which version you use.
I find it a great tool to keep track of my reads and especially of 'to read' titles. My memory isn't what it used to be... Librarything is connected with over 700 library and online-shop catalogues (incl. Libary of Congress, Amazon, Public and University Libraries, ...) WORLDWIDE and allows very easy retrieval of book per author, title words, isbn, ....
Also, it shows you the titles other members with similar collections are listing, much like Amazon, except here it's about books READ and not books BOUGHT.
It does a lot more than this, like listing book events near you etc. etc. but, well...discover! Learning is fun. ;)

Contact me if you like to share your collections there and/or if you want more information.
