The angels altered the peoples eye gene. I think they didn't because those people's hygiene was just fine.
Ya, Genghis Kahn didn't like being told he didn't have good hygienes so he decided to teach everyone a lesson in dom-I-nation.
Because the other people (who ever they are) had bad hygiene they got the bubonic plague. The rats telepathically worked with the bad angels and Genghis brought the fleas with him.
Then to top it off the good psychologically stable europeans thought the best way to kill all the fleas was to kill anyone who had gotten the bad hygiene that Genghis sent out as a plague from god. So those nice people figured the best way to take care of bad hygiene was to kill them.
That's how it really happened.
