Lights, birds, things in the sky

Yesterday at noon I saw a magnificent eagle resting at the top of a pine in my garden. Never had I seen a bird as such this one before. He or she was all black, something around 27 inch size (70 cm) but a bright yellow beak. An intense sun contrasting at a clear blue sky reflected in his feathers producing brilliance over his whole body. The creature was alighted between eastern and southern directions, more to east I’d say. And interesting his position kind of coincided with that other thing that I will describe next.

All my life I liked to lazily observe the sky and then it has been since five nights ago I noticed an unknown luminous object which appears every night in the east and sets in west as any regular celestial body. When this object rises, I see it in the opposite direction to what i think is Jupiter, and then Jupiter is near the setting horizon, i.e. west. I’ve mentioned Jupiter also because the object has apparently the same size and brightness or I’d say a little more luminous than Jupiter. It exhibits a strong yellow-orangish color, which is constant from the rising until its setting, i.e.no variations of hue or color during his transition on the celestial vault. The strange object has a constant brightness, i.e. it doesn’t glimmer or sparkle, also it seems spherical, i.e. not a tale apparently. Therefore I guess could be a planet but not an active star. Once with a 30x binoculars I observed what seemed faint moons around it but I am not sure about this, could be just faded stars.

Among my suppositions I would say it is not Mars because I saw Mars a number of times, and Mars is faint and much smaller than this object. Therefore unless Mars is suffering some kind of massive explosion, this cannot be. How about Saturn? Could be Saturn? A comet? Jupiter indeed? Any ideas?

Hi Outsky,

Since this is your first post on the forum, we would appreciate it if you would post a brief intro about yourself in the Newbies section, telling us how you found this forum, how long you've been reading it and/or the SOTT page, whether or not you've read any of Laura's books yet, etc.

As far as your questions about the object you saw, I don't have any ideas about what it may have been, but maybe other members with some astronomy background can shed some light.

Welcome aboard :-)

Not only Mars is actuallly close and bright, it also has an unusual color (I would describe it as "pink-orange" the last time I saw it) because of a big sand storm covering almost all of its surface.

Nice, I’ve appreciated your great sharing guys, thank you all. Okay Meg, welcome you too, I tell you as a snapshot I’m in resonance with the C’s.

Now I’m pretty much convinced that is Mars. The Sun News’ article fits perfectly well in what I’m seeing these days in the night sky. What a shame, just what I had first discarded. However, considering the black eagle, I still think that there’s something more, some important reverberation between this astronomical phenomenon and us on earth. Maybe we can added to this the approaching “Blood Moon” that will happen along with this Mars' approach. Have some of you also seen unusual lights, things, events in the sky?

I have extracted some passages from “The Sun,”
Mars will be just 44 million miles away, and will appear five times brighter.
Mars will line up behind the Earth and will be closer to us than any point in the last 15 years
The Sun, Earth and Mars will form a straight line in the solar system as the planets' orbits line up.
Astronomers are excited as they will have their closest view of the planet since 2003.
Opposition occurs on July 27, and Mars will reach its closest position to Earth at 07:50am GMT.
For about two months it will outshine Jupiter and move up in rank as the fourth-brightest object in Earth's sky after Venus, the moon and the sun.
