In an almost four-minute video, political editor of Spiegel Online Christoph Sydow tried to defend the editorial policy of his magazine regarding the developments in Aleppo and Mosul. However, the shots demonstrated in his video turned out to be the propaganda materials of Daesh terrorists.

German Magazine Uses Daesh Propaganda Video to Show All is Well in Mosul

The video was supposed to be a response to critical letters of Spiegel Online readers and their comments on social networks. Many of them accused the magazine of spreading propaganda and presenting the situation in the Middle East in a biased manner.

"Again and again, readers have been accusing us of presenting the Aleppo siege as a bad one, and that of Mosul as a good one. That's not right. Political editor Christoph Sydow explains the similarities and the differences," Spiegel Online reported.

In the video, Sydow explained the similarities and differences of both situations. "Eastern Aleppo has been cut off from the outside world for months. There is no help coming to the city. People are starving. There is no drinking water, lack of electricity. In Mosul, the situation is different at the moment. The city can receive supplies; people have water, electricity, enough food. Nobody was starving to death there yet," Sydow said.

To prove his point of view, the journalist referred to video footage showing that the situation in Mosul is not as bad as one probably imagined. But it turns out that the footage he used was Daesh propaganda material who currently keep Mosul under their control.

According to BILDblog, which sharply criticized the German magazine for the releasing video, the shots of the city were published by Daesh a few days ago to make a false impression that people in the city "live a normal life," which in fact is not true.

"This is the most recent Daesh propaganda video which was published online five days ago. It is supposed to show normal life in Mosul, happy people, who have everything they need. However, in fact, there is a lack of water, food, medicines and electricity. This is what people from Mosul tell their relatives in secret telephone calls," the ARD report said.

In the right upper corner of the video, near the logo of the Spiegel magazine, one can see "an Amaq" symbol — the logo of Al-Amaq news agency, a media outlet considered an official part Daesh's propaganda apparatus. "This is the propaganda material of the so-called 'Islamic State' (Daesh)," BILDblog wrote.

Earlier, Germany's ARD TV channel used the same recordings in its report called "Iraq: Inside Mosul". However, in contrast to Spiegel, the ARD stated that the information was taken from Daesh propaganda sources.

Busted! Love it. Another propaganda outlet falls on their face trying to convince people they're not a biased propaganda outfit.

Euronews.com might be another propaganda outlet?

I happened to notice this short video (1) on Liveleak. The summary is a propaganda hit piece. The video also has a logo imprinted on the lower left hand corner, which might represent the “Unified Medical Bureau of Eastern Ghouta”? In the second video (2), it looks like Euronews used part of a Reuters article and inserted their own video clip? Checking further, Russia has had some problems with Euronews in the past, as is noted in two articles below. Plus, Euronews features many of Reuters articles.

Euronews is a multi-lingual news channel established in the early 1990s by a group of major European broadcasters with support from the European Union. Russia’s state television and radio broadcasting corporation VGTRK has a 16 percent holding in Euronews, along with the state television companies of France, Italy, Spain and Switzerland.

At least six children have been killed in a Syrian government airstrike on a nursery in a rebel-held district of Damascus.

The activist organization the “Unified Medical Bureau of Eastern Ghouta” has reported the death toll.

The group says more than 25 children were wounded. Injured adults and children have been treated at facilities in the suburb of Harasta. The group is blaming government forces for the shelling, which reportedly happened mid-morning during playtime.

Heartbreaking images

Pictures taken at the scene show young children covered in blood and being treated in hospital. A tiled floor, strewn with toys, seems to be splattered with blood. A rebel stronghold.

Harasta is in the rebel stronghold of Eastern Ghouta, outside Damascus. The region is regularly targeted by government air strikes and shelling.

More than 300,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began with anti-government protests in March 2011

(2) All-out campaign announced to retake Raqqa
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=1fa_1478445294

The US-backed ‘Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) have are planning a campaign to retake the city of Raqqa, the stronghold of the ISIL militants in Syria.

The coalition of Kurdish and ethnic Arab militias has been gaining ground north of the city. Raqqa was proclaimed the de-facto capital of the “caliphate” proclaimed by ISIL in 2014.

Operation “Angry Euphrates” is the name of SDF’s Raqqa mission? Ha. Pentagon definitely didn’t pick that. https://t.co/APuFutkIGc Reuters— Kevin Baron (DefenseBaron) November 6, 2016

When will the operation start? In hours, sources say. Civilians have been warned to stay away from areas held by ISIL militants.

What support will there be? The SDF say they will be aided by US-led coalition air strikes.

Turkey, Syria’s closest northern neighbour, is not expected to take part. Ankara considers the YPG a terrorist organization and says it will not accept a role for the Kurds in the liberation of Raqqa.

Why are they doing this? The SDF commanders say the goal of the operation called ‘Angry Euphrates’ is to liberate Raqqa from the militants.

Who is in the SDF alliance? The US-backed alliance was formed last year to fight ISIL.

The Syrian YPG Kurdish force – one of the most powerful militias in Syria – is regarded as its backbone. It is dominated by the Kurdish Popular Protection Units (YPG) militia. It has emerged as a key ally of the US-led coalition in northern Syria over the last two years.

Russia to probe Euronews over video of target practice picture of Putin styled as Hitler
http://www.straitstimes.com/world/europe/russia-to-probe-euronews-over-video-of-target-practice-picture-of-putin-styled-as

Published Sep 16, 2014 - Russia said on Monday it would probe Euronews after the news channel broadcast footage of Ukrainian fighters using the portrait of President Vladimir Putin, styled as Hitler, for target practice.

Russia's communications watchdog said it would examine the footage following a request from a ruling party lawmaker who said the video was an insult to the Russian strongman and the entire Russian people "who survived the horrors of World War II".

The spokesman for the Roskomnadzor communications watchdog, Vadim Ampelonsky, said it was too early to say whether Russian authorities would move to punish the channel based in Lyon, France.

He added however that the watchdog usually issues a formal reprimand if a media outlet is found guilty of inciting hatred. Two reprimands within the space of a year give authorities legal grounds to suspend the broadcasting of a channel in the country.

"This case would be out of the ordinary for any channel, especially such a respectable channel like Euronews," Ampelonsky said.

On Friday, the multilingual channel showed masked Ukrainian soldiers using a portrait of Putin, depicted with a moustache and hairstyle to resemble Hitler, as a target during shooting exercises.

"We are training them for war," an instructor says in the video. "To survive in war conditions and eliminate the enemy during the occupation or the invasion of Russian troops."

The United Russia lawmaker who requested the probe, Mikhail Markelov, said the channel should formally apologise for the broadcast.

"I request that prosecutors begin an investigation and give an appraisal of the video which harms Russia's national interests," Markelov said.

In his letters to the communications watchdog and the general prosecutor's office, the lawmaker said the video of the firing exercises "incites racial hatred and hatred towards man".

Euronews confirmed that it had showed a Reuters Television report showing fighters training in a forest.

"Euronews does not censor its content whether it is self-produced or coming from trusted and reputable news agencies," the channel said in an emailed statement. "The footage where the 'portrait' of Russian President appears is only three seconds over a two-minute story."

A Russia representative of the European channel's supervisory board, said earlier Monday that Euronews did not intend to insult anyone.

Speaking on Echo of Moscow radio, Pyotr Fedorov said Euronews had earlier showed US President Barack Obama with "donkey ears" and Germany's Angela Merkel wearing a Nazi uniform.

Kiev and the West accuse Putin of sending regular troops into Ukraine to prop up separatists battling government forces. Russia has denied the claims.

Hatred of the Russian strongman runs deep in Ukraine where rolls of toilet paper featuring a portrait of Putin and profanity-laced slogans condemning him have proved very popular.

Since Moscow annexed Crimea from Ukraine in March, criticism of Putin and his policies has become a virtual taboo on mainstream Russian television.

Russian watchdog drops ‘Putin shooting target’ case against Euronews

Published time: 8 Oct, 2014 - The state agency for control of the mass media has dropped a case against Euronews television for running a story in which pro-Kiev fighters in Ukraine were allegedly using a portrait of President Putin as a shooting target.

[...] [...] The Roskomnadzor ruling comes after a string of conflicts between Euronews and the Russian authorities and activists. In mid-August, the Russian Foreign Ministry objected to the channel’s coverage of the delivery of Russian humanitarian aid to the war-hit eastern regions of Ukraine. According to the ministry, Euronews said Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had suggested to use of International Red Cross trucks in the operation and then reported that Moscow had changed its mind. The Russian ministry said the suggestions had never been made and demanded that Euronews refute the report and apologize.

Before this incident, the deputy head of the Foreign Ministry’s information department, Maria Zakharova, noted the extreme bias of Euronews reports on Ukraine in a Facebook post.
