lost

Anyone see lost yesterday here in the UK on E4?

Personally I thought it had a lot of bull poop in it. It was the episode with Sayid who meets that french woman again and she leads him to a net with a new guy in it. He tortures him to find out if he is one of the 'others' or not.

It is filled with flash backs of his time during the gulf war. It kinda sickened me with how predictable the bullsh*t was. Americans were portrayed as reasonable, honourable and lots of other things ending with able.

Anyway, Sayid was to torture his commanding officer at the request of the amercians in a bid to find a lost pilot. He found out where he was but he was dead.

I just hated the contrast between the americans to the iraqi's. At teh end the troops were ordered out and one of the US personel in charge walked over to sayid and counted out some money before putting it into his pocket. I mean, vomitville ot what.

Anyway what got me thinking was at the end of the episode after Sayid had severly beat we saw a snide look on the strangers face that made it clear to the viewer that he was one of the others and also Sayid now knew. So it kinda gave the impression of torture being a nessesary evil. And also I want to point out that while this show had torture as a topic in it, no americans were involved in the actual process.

I honestly expected the words "The reputation of the American military was not harmed during the filming of this production." to be shown at the end of the show.

Each year there's always a lot of buzz surrounding american tv shows, whether original or translated ones (I live in Quebec), and sincerely, I've never understood why. And if there is one to be named from my list of oh-my-god-what-is-that-*big*-crap, that would be Lost. I'm sure there are others, but I try to forget about them anyway. I know my dad follows religiously this show (in french)... what a pity.

Televised entertainment should be banned from the planet.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I spotted that too.
It was glarily obvious.
It was really made, like you said, to make the Americain untainted by acts of tortures but it has to be done to know the truth.

Put that along the tv show 24 under propaganda materials.

Ohh my gaaawd...I started to watch this show one month ago. It has been recommended by a friend and by Pinkerton.
Looking for an appartment in The Big City turns out to be a full time job :(. What little time I have is spent on work, reading Gurdjieff related books and... watching Lost.
I`m just in the middle of the 4th Season. I read the character`s flashbacks as self-remembrance and half expect Ben Linus to pull out Beelzebub out of this bag of his .This show is like skinning an onion.
It`s absolutely great - I love it!!! But I have to warn anyone who hasn`t watched it yet: Lost is VERY ADDICTIVE. While waking up recently my first thoughts :O were with Cpt. Kurz, Cpt. Falafel, Deepdish, Freckles,
Jack (just found out Sawyer`s nickname for Jack is too offensive for this forum) etc . Obviously it`s time to finish watching it.
I`ve seen only a few oldfashioned shows like Star Trek, where at the end of an episode the story is wrapped up and one can go to bed. Then came my first modern show: 24. There a whole season is set in one day - so the story`s conclusion comes only at the end of one season.
Lost ups the ante: When you start this one you`re in for a 5000 minute -(or: 83 hours !!!) movie.
I probably can never ever enjoy a 2 hour movie again.

You'll enjoy season 5. They pull on the mythology thread very hard and introduce time travel into the story arc (done correctly I might add), with a lot less flashbacks. And they also feature Castaneda's A Separate Reality in one of the episodes, obviously a nod to the time travel ramifications. Overall, if you enjoyed season 4 then 5 is going to be right up there with it.

BTW, I love Sawyer's nickname's for everyone too. Nice touch of levity to the overall drama IMO. But in the end, it is at heart a science fiction-heavy show.

Just bought Lost season 1 on discount; don't know what to expect but what I've read about it sounds interesting. I've actually remember seeing the pilot when it was aired (in those days we still had TV) and it felt like one of these more "weirder" series, á la Twin Peaks. Apropos, we just watched the whole Twin Peaks series with my wife-just incredible! For those of you that haven't seen Twin Peaks I really recommend it; there's a lot of "theological" stuff in it and most importantly it really "deals" with the origins of evil in a very interesting way.

Sorry, went off topic there. So, I hope me and my wife don't get too addicted once we start watching 'Lost'. Even though I prefer using my free time reading non fiction books and learning stuff, I "allow" my self every now and then to watch "weird" movies and series that have some - in lack of a better word - spiritual angle in it. Hope watching series on the laptop isn't too detrimental for those of us who are committed to The Work :P

Did anyone happen to catch the series finale yesterday? It seems that people had really varied reactions to it -- I happened to think it was well done. The way it resolved, I couldn't help but think about things like reincarnation, learning lessons, soul groups, and moving on to 5D. The concluding 10 or so minutes affected me very emotionally, much more than most TV, although I couldn't say exactly why -- I had an emotional hangover from it even when I got up this morning.

I did catch the final yesterday. :(

Yep me too.

I was disappointed but that's because of my expectations. I was expecting some explanation about the mysteries, way things happen the way they did ...
I finally understood that is was a show about relationships, about characters -placed in similar situations.

What I clearly didn't like was the rush. After 6 years ( :O ) of great development, in the end they just rushed all the answers in a very cheazy way, I find. Kind of like - ''Okay boys! we have to get done with this show... there is a new one in line , so let's make an ending for it.'' Literally anybody could of had thought of such an ending, but when you see how complicated the story gets, you just don't think it would be that way (you just expect something else), but it was.
But except for the ending (in my subjective opinion), I think the show was a great story.

I had an emotional hangover from it even when I got up this morning.

I think I did too. I certainly got attached to the characters.

I caught the finale and I actually thought it was well done. Admittedly, I cried at the end and at the same time, felt relieved at the resolve. The way they were "moving on" and all made sense. The "Flash Sideway" is finally revealed to be a place outside of "time" for them to "find each other" and "remember" before "moving on together" while viewers thought it was an alternate timeline where island was sunken and plane never crashed.

Can someone spoil it for me?

I never liked the show, I felt 'lost' watching the few episodes I did catch and never really understood why it was such a phenomenon. I think Myrddin kinda hinted at it in his reply, but I haven't seen any of the last few eps so perhaps just a brief explanation of what the island really was and how the whole issue got resolved?

Sure thing, they were all dead. That's why the writers never had to explain everything. Jacks' dad at the ending said there is no time nor place. DUH. So in being dead, something we don't know squat about, they don't have to tie up. Cause they're DEAD.

Hmmm, they way I understood it was that the Island was real, they went through all of that. But they were meeting up in this 'sideways reality', so that they could 'go to the light' together. So they all met up with each other and remembered the Island. But that in this other reality, they really were dead.
The thing that made me wonder, is why they had jobs in this afterlife? Did they get paid? lol

What do you mean by sideways reality? Like the island was another post-death reality and they had to learn a few lessons there before moving on?

Good one. Betcha would've been an excellent "lost" screen writer with a little knowledge from the Work.!.!.!
Heck, I'm "lost".
Man, I've heard everyone gets at least one million dollar idea, and that sometimes truth can be stranger than fiction. Betcha some good Sci-Fi movies could come from the Work. Would the public get it? Nah, Hollywood has beaten us to it by using Sci-Fi for distraction & dis-info from what truly may be truth.

Well I guess it's called by different names. Maybe it was flash-sideways, something to that effect. It was a 'debate' of sorts of what to call a reality that is exsisting side by side of the other. This link might explain better. I feel strange posting a link about TV, but I think I got the term incorrect in my above post.
