I would like to suggest an article about 2014 Prince of Asturias Awards, as Mafalda's creator, the Argentine cartoonist Joaquín Salvador Lavado, also known as "Quino" has been awarded TODAY by the Prince of Asturias Foundation, which are a series of annual prizes awarded in Spain (city of Oviedo) to individuals, entities or organizations from around the world who make notable achievements in the sciences, humanities, and public affairs

Although it may not be big news, It would be a good opportunity to include some Mafalda's comic strips, as they talk about freedom, critical thinking, social responsability etc principles that are in concordance with sott.net

From their website:
The essential aims of the Foundation are to consolidate the existing links between the Principality and the person who bears the title of Prince or Princess of Asturias, a title which corresponds to the heir to the Spanish throne, and to contribute to the encouraging and promoting the scientific, cultural and humanistic values that form part of mankind's universal heritage.

Quino achieved international fame with the creation of the universe of Mafalda, a girl who perceives the complexity of the world through the simplicity of a child’s eyes. Mafalda, the foremost character in Quino’s creative work, is intelligent, ironic, non-conformist, rebellious and sensitive. She dreams of a world that is more dignified, just and respectful of human rights. On Mafalda’s 50th “anniversary”, Quino’s lucid messages still remain valid due to having wisely combined the simplicity of his drawing with the depth of his thought

Moreover, Pablo Irrgang, who made the famous sculpture of Mafalda in Buenos Aires, has made another one that has been placed in the central park in the city of Oviedo.
