Man 'infected women with HIV'

An HIV positive man has been arrested after a series of women complained he had unprotected sex with them, without mentioning that he had the virus.

The 39-year-old, reported to be an ex-serviceman, is said to have had unsafe intercourse with 'a number' of women in the East Devon area, police said.

The man, from Bournemouth, was arrested and questioned over his alleged failure to let his lovers know about his HIV status. He was released on police bail until May 11.

Devon and Cornwall police have not revealed how many women have made statements, nor their current states of health.

A force spokesman said: "Devon and Cornwall Police can confirm a number of women have come forward regarding allegations of their having had unprotected sex with a man who they now believe to be HIV positive. They allege he failed to disclose this to them."

Infecting a partner with HIV - the virus that causes Aids - can lead to a charge of recklessly or intentionally causing grievous bodily harm.

Lisa Power, head of policy at HIV charity the Terrence Higgins Trust, told the Western Morning News: "Whether it's the people making the allegation or the accused, they will all be in shock.

"If you can't or don't (use a condom), get a check-up as soon as you can. You don't want to have to wait until a police officer is knocking on your door saying you may have been exposed."

Victims no longer have to wait three months after sexual contact before the virus can be identified.

I wonder what kind of relationships he has with these women! If they are "superficial" relationships how come do they accept unprotected contacts, and if they are serious relationships, how come he has so many? Or maybe I don't understand the story...

I can't help but see a vectoring twist at the bottom of this article to once again demonize foreign asylum seekers.
Another good reason to shut down all frontiers because "They" will spread Aids, beware of casual sex terrorism !!

By curiosity I checked out other cases like this one on the net and I found a large proportion of men arrested and condemned for such acts, mostly of non-caucasian origins.
Which begs the question, are these cases (unlike this one above) talked about to instill fear of the foreigner ?
Especially women ?

On a side note, I read the daily mail last week and I was baffled by the outright racist attitude they had in some of their articles.

there was a similar case in Poland few years back. a refugee from Cameroon, known as Simon Mol, was accused of intenionally spreading HIV among women he'd been having sex with. he came to Poland in 1999 and was then diagnosed as a HIV positive person, yet he didn't informed any of his multiple partners about this fact. on the contrary, it is said he had been encouraging them to have sex without protection because using a condom would have been a sign of rascist biases against "dirty black people".

Mol was a journalist and a poet, well-known in political activist circles. he was even awarded a title of the antifascist of the year by one of polish human rights organisations. he died before his case was formally proven.
