Oh maaaaaan. How could I describe the feelings invoked in me by this artist?
It was truly a revelation, my world has definately become a better place...
A while ago I was one of those people who would say "yeah u right" if someone would complain about the current quality of music nowadays, how bad it got and how much it was better "back in the days".
Well, someone told me that maybe I was not looking deep enough... and she was right.
I think it is part of our human condition that we tend to glorify the past just the way we like to kill our gods when they are amongst us and then put them on a pedestal of inhuman perfection to pray to them to save us. Its much more convenient that way.
After carefull observation and after I saw the need to broaden my own perspective and worldview I´m not convinced anymore. Yes, one cannot argue that there is some serious lack in quality of modern popular music and a sort of extreme conformism and shallow repetition of the same old fast food concepts of a global entertainment industriy that is based on greed and manipulation, taking the average consumer for stupid idiots. But with the internet things are changing dramatically, because we can now choose what we consume and support those artists with substance and meaning, instead of being fed the common garbage of mainstream radio and television and so it seems more and more the responsability of the general public in how our future will look like.
Anyway Benjamin Clementine is one refreshing and haunting discovery so God bless this mysterious thick jungle of insanity and beauty called the internet, always good for a surprise.
By the way he is a complete autodidact (british with ghanean backround) and was discovered playing in the metro in paris.
